Trouble getting windows to output correct resolution

Post by Roboplodicus »

I got a nice VGA PC CRT that can scan at 2048x1536 but when I set windows 10 to output that, only the "desktop resolution" changes the "active signal resolution" stays at 1600x1200 does anyone know how to get a actual 2048x1536 signal out of windows 10?

Edit: I'm using the Sunix DPU3000 DisplayPort to VGA adapter https://www.amazon.com/Sunix-DisplayPor ... B00JARYTVK

Google the Custom Resolution Utility.

Displayport outputs analog video on its own, so the adapter shouldn't be an issue.

I've tried making a custom resolution in CRU for 2048x1536 then selecting it in the windows display settings but it still shows the active signal resolution at 1600x1200.

never tried and I can't provide a solution, so just a thought on this: if the video card does not have a DAC on its own, but is using an external DAC (in the DP to VGA converter) instead, then the card mit be limited to what's available on single link digital connection (e.g. what's available on the DVI standard) and that would be 1600x1200 (or 1920x1200 with reduced timings). 2048x1536 would require a DAC on the graphics card itself or a higher end digital connection (dual link dvi or later hdmi standard), so eventually the combination of the DP output and the converter might introduce a limitation to (W)UXGA.

Is it possible that it is working fine but the OSD in the display just doesn't properly identify the signal? Like maybe it just says 1600x1200 for everything above?

If it's Nvidia, try going to Nvidia control panel -> Display -> Adjust desktop size and position -> Perform scaling on -> Display.

On some versions of the drivers this setting seems to not work, or be back to front, so try GPU too.
