looking for impressions on genocide circuit 2

Post by captain ahar »

yep its that time of year again...

wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the topic. i've tried to gain a bit of interest in the game before but to no avail, and honestly i don't understand why. the closest comparisons i can draw to the gameplay is something of a manic raizing (slightly unbalanced, but i digress).

genocide circuit 2 is quite deep, challenging, and free. we have medaling, kill counts effecting stage progression (and scores, especially scores), aggressive bombing tactics, suicide tactics, balanced boss milking, weapon management, steep difficulty (later in the game), secret bonuses, and the list goes on and on...

and yet in the years i've been on this board, i've seen it only mentioned a few times, and discussed only once (see my beginnings of an ST here).

so i'm wondering what people think of it, or if you haven't tried it, is something making you steer clear? do you not care?because it seems to me that games like this are things you normally pay money for. and further, as far as i can tell, this game is a new frontier. Tar Palantir's and my discussion on scoring is the only analysis of the game i've read in english (japanese is another matter, no idea where to start looking, and how to read it once (if) i've found it).

oh, and in case anyone is curious, i'll be updating the scoring section in the strat forum, with a comprehensive list of the things i/we know so far.

----
as was mentioned before the edit, this is basically a rewrite, so i probably forgot many details. i'll edit/repost if it seems worthwhile.

and thus ends one of my periodic rants for the underdog. ^_^

Image
and i'm leaving the attached image because i like it :P

I've d/l Genocide 1 & 2 PC shmups a few years back...

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

I've downloaded this Genocide 2 PC shmup a few years back along with the original Genocide 1 PC shmup. Upon unzipping the Genocide 1 program and starting a brand new game, I noticed that all "bonus" image gallery was 'unlocked' for one's eyes to oogle at...anime styled tits 'n' asses (yeah, there is a shmup engine beyond the hentai imagery shown in both Genocide PC shmup programs).

I've gotten my ass handed to me by the extremely hard-ass gameplay of both hentai shmup games more than once. ^_~

It's nice to be able to play either game with hentai imagery turned "off" if one so wishes to do so (keep the wife, g/f, and wee little ones away from these two particular PC hentai shmups). If they catch you playing that shit, you'll probably get a comment along the lines of "WTF is that shit"?! Honest to Gawd, it's just a little PC shmup, that's all (that's not entirely true though). Could be regarded as so-called "guilty-pleasure shmup titles that go by the names of Genocide 1 & 2.

For Capn' Ahar,

Yeah, one would be expected to shell out some serious $$$ for a shmup that has all the qualities that you've listed but is available as PC shmup freeware. I'd surely would pay top dollar for a real Jamma PCB version of X86000 Cho Ken Sha shmup...it really needs such a PCB one-off job -- could be feasible, hmmm? Playing it at a true low resolution 320 x 240 on an analog RGB monitor and that's pure arcade gaming heaven right there. ^_~

don't feel bad Tar Palantir, i've not played it in quite a while myself... as i've mentioned in the past, this game needs some serious dedication to improve... dedication i can't hand out at the moment.

and can anyone confirm how this game was released? if it was released as freeware, i've got the archive if someone would be willing to host it. and thus boldly allowing others to give it a try. :D

and to anyone using Genocide Circuit as a measuring stick for the sequel, this is a huge mistake. the only thing they have in common is the artist... and the team that made them. gameplay-wise they are completely different.

the first one is basically a time-attack stage, where you destroy repeating waves of enemies for score on a time limit. and as a aside, i think you can unlock more stage "art," i've gotten near the cross-over point on the third screen. but honestly i didn't like the thing enough to work at it...

the second one (as i've mentioned) is much deeper, and more focused on score and survival.

i hope others are still watching... ^_-

First impression is that the game is fast and very hard.

i've got a replay sitting on my comp, not very good considering, but if you want some impression on play style just ask? :D

i should note, that the replays play in overdrive (think shangai alice speed play option, except through the boss as well as the stage)

I would appreciate a replay very much.
Just for the scoring mechanism of course ;)

of note is that the replay is only up to the middle of stage 2. my better one (progress wise, not score) got trashed some time ago.

Anyway, is this game related at all to say Genocide Squared on x68000? I'm guessing that's a no.
