PVM 20L5 making ticking noise when turning on

Hey Guys,

Was hoping someone here could help me out. I got a 20L5 delivered to me yesterday and after going through it, the image seems to be fantastic and there was no damage. BUT when i turn the unit on, it makes a ticking noise then a couple seconds pass and then it ticks once or twice more and then degausses and comes on.

Is this something i should be concerned about?

Nothing to be concerned about, it's normal. Mine do the same.

Hmm, i just am not sure why my last 20L5 and 20L2 didn't make this noise. It is like 4 ticks that happen before the degaussing happens and the PVM turns on. You can hear it pretty well in the video. It almost sounds like a fluorescent bulb turning on.

But yours does that too eh? Thanks. I am just trying to figure out what i should do as i just paid an arm and a leg for this 20L5 that was supposably serviced. If this ticking noise is something to worry about like a flyback, HRV, or some other electrial arcing i would definitely want to confront the seller about it.

Did you buy the monitor from an eBay seller? I'm only asking because there's a particular seller that claims to sell serviced monitors, but this may not always be true.

I should add that one of my tri-sync arcade monitors made exact same sounds when turning on but I don't have that any more to take a vid.

this seems normal to me. mine ticks once, then ticks again along with the degauss, then ticks again a few seconds after. It's been doing that for over 2 years I am pretty sure.

Wow guys, thank you so much, especially for the video. That is exactly the same noise, so if your PVM's do this i assume it must be something it is supposed to do or is totally benign.
