No free Android ver as well?

I can't find any CAVE games on the Play Store anymore, is it because of my (European) region?

Yep, they removed every Cave game.
It's not free, as it's supposedly ~120¥/1€, but I really wanted to buy it...

Most of the CAVE ports stopped working with recent android updates, dev never fixed it and didn't respond to questions. Presumably that's why they're gone from the store.

While it's cool... In my opinion, it's worst to play of other touchscreen Cave ports because of switching left/right shot by pressing button which sacrifices precious seconds and even kill you. Unless you play it with both hands, maybe. i play with one as i hold tablet with other. Maybe its better on iphone/ipod size.

No, you are correct, it has the worst interface of the mobile Cave shmups. Being a hori rather than a vert doesn't work as well on a touchscreen either because it has threats coming from both sides. Your hand(s) will always get in the way at one time or another.

DoDonPachi Maximum has the best interface because it was designed from the ground up as a mobile game, but I haven't tried the more recent Japan-only releases.

You really do have to use both hands, it's tough. The difficulty in a game should not be the input device, but I suppose maybe there is an external controller that could work. It was still fun to play for awhile.

From what I heard, Death Smiles is the only iOS Cave shmup with MFi controller support. I don't have a MFi controller to see how well it plays with it, though. Too bad most iOS games can't be played with Bluetooth keyboard. Funny thing is that the Bluetooth keyboard works fine with certain Android games.

Looks like every Ggee games were removed from the Play store...

I try to launch deathsmiles that's still installed on my android 4.1 phone: if connectivity is on I have a "no network" error and it closes.
I need to be offline to play it.

Nice support.

edit: I see dodonpachi and espgaluda2 were updated for android 6.0 in october on the japanese page.
I don't see the same info on deathsmiles page but there was an update at the same time. (120Y discount there, nice)
("deathsmiles is not compatible with android 5" is written on Ggee Japan twitter... what a mess)

So... are Ggee getting back to Japan only?

Is there any way to change difficulty? I'm mainly interested in playing on arcade standard difficulty, but I can't find an option.

I don't think they have an external difficulty select because you select difficulty in-game before starting most stages.

If memory serves, the bullet patterns and everything were pretty similar to arcade difficulty.

i made the mistake of buying those and ikaruga a couple years ago, only to get burned when i updated my phone to Android 5.0. I even contacted Google and there was NOTHING i could do. Never buying anything from GGee in my life if i can help it.

Its a good thing to have the iOS CAVE games still working, cuz on Android its a no-no.

Android is kind of a joke when it comes to gaming, tbh. It's why I have a 4th-gen iPad.

Smartphone mode is okay for what it is. I just need to find time to do a full run. As for arcade mode, I have the 360 port.

The entry level Android I have, Galaxy Core Prime runs Pinball Arcade and Zen Pinball as well as the iPad 4 and seems decent at emulation (doesn't like Taito F3 with the .139u1 MAME, but runs CPS2 and NeoGeo stuff at 60 FPS with frameskip off and scanlines). No jailbreaking required to use emulation either.

It's less that I'm referring to and more that a lot of good mobile games seem to be on iOS but not Android, although that's been changing recently.

Even then, seems like some of those games get nerfed when ported to Android; Cytus and Tone Sphere, for instance, don't have hit sounds, but instead vibrations.

I've come to find the iOS ports unplayable. I want to play the original arcade modes, but controlling a bullet hell with a touchscreen just isn't enjoyable as you don't have the control of say a firm grip with a D-Pad on a Gameboy, so travelling with one sucks. Phones aren't exactly designed to be ergonomic for holding (basically all about slim size) so it's also awkward and uncomfortable to play for any extended length of time.

Protip: don't be me and buy iPhone merely for the Mushi ports and DOJ... but Bug Panic is still amusing at least.

A few tips from me:

- set display size in settings to medium (more for tablet than phone as you need really sharp eyesight). So you have empty space under that which you can use as control pad - no need to touch ship/bullets with finger, any part of screen would do
- for horizontal games: hold phone this way: thumbs and ring fingers holding device while index and middle fingers are what you use. Much better than trying play with thumbs.

Still, you can't play seriously anyway cause even if you make switch shot to laser on double tap , activating bomb etc still not convenient.

I dont know about you guys, but it play the game just fine. i set the screen to max, with space on the left side (controlling hand), all buttons on manual, on the right side, and believe me when i tell you i manage to play all the way to the end in HARD with no problems.

it's even more enjoyable on an iPhone6S than on an iPhone5. And im one of those suckers that got an iPhone (5 in my case) just so i could play Shmups on the go.

Quick question: does Deathsmiles have "slowdown control" on ios like all other Cave titles?

No, but unlike all the others it can use an MFi controller, as mentioned above. I have a SteelSeries Stratus XL that works great.
