XRGB-3 keeps dropping the signal on 240p/480i transitions

Post by tongshadow »

Title is self-explanatory, the video signal is lost during said transitions and it takes time to resync and get a picture. Sometimes I dont even get a picture at all!
Any solution or way to remedy this?
It's pretty annoying on PS1 games that use 480i menus/fmv movies and switch to 240p for gameplay.

Also happens with 480i/480p PS2 games.

This is a common issue that doesn't have a fix afaik. Every time you change resolution the HDMI interfaces have to do another handshake unlike CRTs which can change resolution on the fly. I'm sure someone could provide a much better explanation but it's not actually a "problem" with your XRGB, everyone experiences the same thing. The MLIG episode on PS1/PS2 go into detail about it iirc.

The XRGB3 doesn't use HDMI but VGA though. I've heard the 3 as well as the 2 and 2plus did instant or near instant 240p/480i switching. Perhaps the problem is the display being used or the connection to it. How are you hooking it up?

Using the XRGB-3's VGA output in B1 mode.
