Square-Enix/Game Arts: Project Sylph (X360)

Post by FMK »

This title was just announced at the MS conference in Japan, by Square-Enix and Game Arts representatives. The PBP I was reading just pointed the game as a "shooting game", and reported a movie of said game played short after the announcement.

In the following hours/days we should have more details.

For now, let's hope it's a shooting game as we want it to be, and not a borderliner. :P

UPDATE: 1Up attended the conference, and posted the following, almost (you never know) confirming the game is a shmup.

Game Arts and Square Enix announced that they're collaborating on Project Sylph, a shooter, is in development. Game Arts is the company who made Silpheed for the PS2, which makes us wonder if "Sylph" is just a sly hint at a possible new addition to the Silpheed franchise?

Me like very much. :D

Sounds like it's more like a space combat sim though, rather than a shmup.

Taken from here
Project Sylph, working title, developed by Game Arts, published by Square was announced today. The latest in the Silpheed Shooting Game Series (developed by Game Arts), appears to not only be a Square-ish game, but also one that emphasis dramatic elements.

A lot of 360 games are region free... at least, that's what I've been hearing.

And considering how awful PS2 Silpheed was, I'm kinda :? about this.
I most definitely hate your favorite shooter.
For the sake of our own sanity, let's not even talk about Psikyo, Battle Garegga, or DDP DOJ with each other.

In the US and Europe, yes. In Japan, no. Most Japanese 360 software is region locked.

Damn... guess that means I'll need to import a Japanese 360 when RSG3 comes out. :/

And, unless much else good comes to the 360, I'll probably end up constructing an arcade cab, and my 360 will be a dedicated RSG3 machine, unless another shmup or a new Panzer Dragoon is released for it. :/

Well... they haven't officially announced RSG3 yet...

I assume that will be later during... whatever show is going on that has all this info coming out.

Also, according to IGN this will be an "Arcade style shooting game":

Well the few flashes of in game footage from the xboxyde video make it look more like a wing commander type game to me.

Time will tell I guess.

Word. I would much rather have a new Einhander title than another Silpheed game. I will take what I can get though. Encouraging news either way.

The screens seem to make it look more like a Wing Commander type game (or possibly a rail shooter) but it should be interesting to see nonetheless...

Hmm... I'm not exacly sure if we'd be lucky enough for an Einhander 2, but I'll be happy once/if I hear that the same dev team that worked on Einhander takes part in this game. Silpheed was pretty below average, IMO :(

On a related note, Kenichiro Fukui needs to bust out another sweet ass soundtrack for this game in the same style as Einhander.

I'm glad it's not a shmup.

Don't get me wrong, shmups are great, but there's always been a pretty steadly flow of them. Space combat games have been dead for a while, so it's nice to have a new one.

Yeah, Play-Asia has a compatibility guide up and I don't think there's a single Japanese release that is region free.

If this policy continues, it will almost make more sense for gamers to buy JP model X360s, allowing play of all region-locked JP titles, and most region-free releases from western regions. At least in theory.

I'm glad I got the Japanese system- I did so because I had a feeling it would be this way. Some of the US titles are available in Asian versions in case the US one isn't compatible with the Japanese unit. While the Asian editions are cheaper (try $40), the shipping from P-A will kick your butt unless you buy a couple games at a time.
Kinect? KIN NOT.
