I don't want any shmups for the Switch, and here's why: it's not a platform made for the genre in mind whatsoever. In fact it's pretty obvious shmups/fighters have been going to the Switch banking on the success of it, rather than actually having a proper reason to be there. So what input device am I supposed to use to play shmups on a Switch with?
- The Pro/Xenoblade 2 controllers have an issue where pressing left/right on the dpad triggers up/right
- The Hori Controller is awful and I regret buying mine
- The Hori Fighting Commander is reportedly mushy
- The Hori Joycon only works in handheld, isn't wireless, has a bunch of issues, lacks SL/SR buttons
- There's one decent Hori arcade stick for the Switch, and it's a $250+ import
- There are no adapters that have been properly lag tested yet
The Flip Grip is interesting, but I didn't support it because I'm not interested in playing shmups on an 8-inch screen seriously.
So ignoring the fact that there isn't really a decent way of actually playing shmups on the platform, if I'm playing docked, there's no real reason to use the Switch for shmups unless they're exclusive. At that point I would rather just have a PC release. Playing shmups in TATE is essentially pointless so that isn't going to attract much attention, most of the people buying Switch ports aren't buying them to play them to any real extent and most are buying them purely because they want to build a library for their new toy. I can only imagine people building a Switch library are the equivalent of the people who used to collect Magic: the Gathering or Pokemon cards as a kid but didn't actually play the game. More original content and less ports would be much appreciated.
To clarify I do indeed own one, but I don't see any reason to bother using it unless it's for exclusives. Kind of like a lot of people I'd imagine.

Any Wii U-compatible stick should also work on the Switch, but that still doesn't exactly expand your options that much.

I personally disagree, I've always appreciated the fact of playing these where ever I want. There's also been sort of a surgance of brining back older games and porting them to the Switch, which I find awesome. Not to mention that there are some pretty well done ports on the system like the shooters in the Arcade Archives lineup. QC issue? I read some translated complaints on Amazon JP that claim that it's stiff compared to the PS4 version, but I didn't notice much of a difference, if any, from the 360 version, feel wise. I did notice that the PS4 version also had mixed reviews. Hori also makes the Split Pad Pro, which has some of the same issues as the Hori joycon, but with a bigger gamepad and a part for the right side of the switch with larger buttons. There are also some Genesis style pads from 8bitdo and Retro-bit that work very nicely on the switch. The Mayflash F300 and F500 joysticks aren't bad and work on switch directly. The official SNES controller for Switch feels nice, but lacks a home button. It works with a good deal of ACA games and shmups, but another controller is needed to exit out of any game that isn't the Nintendo Online NES/SNES/FC/SFC games.Elixir wrote: - The Hori Fighting Commander is reportedly mushy
