Poll: Under Defeat : Limited or Regular ?

According to the German http://www.gamefront.de the regular edition of Under Defeat has allready sold out while there are still some LE available.
So the question arises....

Which version did you get ?

I got the limited. But maybe it was a bit too expensive and people didn't think it was worthy enough.
I think its soundtrack is really common for a shmup, that's why the added CD doesn't change its value that much. Nothing too outstanding - unlike the Ikaruga one for example :P

I got the sega direct edition. I don't like the LE's art as much as the standard but the poster has the artwork from the regular edition soo all is well.

The art for the LE is different from the normal version.

Oddly enough, the regular edition art is better. If you blew a lot of money for the game+poster, however, it makes up for it, since the poster is essentially the regular edition art, but it would've been cooler if it didn't show the release date on it.

One of these days, I'll tear off the shrinkwrap from my copy and actually play it.

Only thing that would make me spring for an LE is a superplay DVD of some sort. Even then, I'd still have to consider.

Thankfully G.Rev was nice enough to include replays on the game disc. Thanks G.Rev!

LE. The CD is nicely produced and enjoyable, and I really just want to support G.rev. I think they've been good to their fans, and I want to do my part to encourage them to keep putting this stuff out.

I got the regular edition -- I don't listen to game soundtracks that much and I didn't feel the extra price was really justified, especially since IMO the soundtrack is probably the weakest part of the game. That said, buy this game in whatever form you can -- it's one of the best shooters to be released in years, lightyears beyond other recent 'semi-oldschool' shooters like Raiden III and Trizeal.

LE myself. Despite the original haveing slightly cooler cover art, THERE'S A LIMITED EDITION version. I'm a sucker for hype.

I voted for the limited edition, but actually, I bought both

I bought the SegaDirect LE Edition and the regular one from SAM (here in the trading station).

I will keep the regular edition sealed, in case I decide to sell it someday. Since they have different artwork, I wanted to get both, I know it's silly, but the game is really good and I really love collecting Dreamcast games.

The Limited Edition looks oh so nice next to my only other DVD cased Dreamcast game: Cosmic Smash.

The real question this thread needs to look at is whether the Limited Edition was really that limited. There may easily have been more copies of the Limited made than the Regular edition.

I can do without the ost for now, don't care much for the poster, the RE is cheaper and as already mentioned, the cover art is oh, SO MUCH BETTER!

This is true, but on Grev's site they state they have ordered a small reprint of the Regular edition, so it will still be available for a bit. The LE, obviously, will be all gone when the remaining copies sell (probably pretty soon).

As for me, I bought the Regular edition and I'm very happy with my decision. I like the cover art better, I don't care for the soundtrack enough to want it on CD (actually, I can't think of any game soundtrack I'd actually listen to on CD), and it was $20 cheaper.

Probably roughly equal numbers, but there will be further pressings of the regular version, where as the limited is just that; after they're gone, they're gone for good. They will not print more.

I really don't understand the draw of LE versions, when both are truely limited quantities, so both usually go up in value equally. Look at Border Down as an example. Actually I think there are more people selling the LE versions than normal versions now.

What's more bizarre is I've seen many occasions in the last few months where regular USED editions of Border down have sold for more (as in $100+) than used copies of the LE ($50-80) and SEALED/NEW regular copies ($80-100)! There were two used regular editions on ebay that just sold for $107 and $110 respectively, for example.

I got the LE, to support G-Rev, and I have had most of the other shooters on DC in the limited D-direct versions.

I got the Sega Direct LE for the simple reason that this is THE LAST Sega Direct Dreamcast game. There probably will be future Dreamcast games, but no more Sega Direct LEs. And as has been stated before, once the limited edition is gone, it's gone, while they will keep printing more of the regular edition as long as there is demand.

On a side note, I wonder why Sega shipped the game/poster/sticker in such a HUGE box? I'm keeping the box, too, by the way

I got the LE. Like many people, mainly to support G Rev and also to have the extra CD, which is OK, I like OSTs even though I don't tend listen to them that much, really.

I must admit I do prefer the regular edition's cover art myself, howver, I've replaced the LE DVD's black case with a transparent one (which also has a better extra disc tray that hopefully won't ruin the booklet). The white cover goes really well with the transparent case, so at least it looks a bit nicer than before.

I've heard that the BD reprint was 3000 pieces, bringing the regular version up to 8000 pieces total.

So I suppose that Under Defeat will see roughly 15000 pieces total (between LE and RE).

I thought the music was actually quite good-- lots of neat brassy chords, guitar solos... level 3 starts off with a nicely decadent guitar riff right as the first powerup chopper comes in, level 5 snaps into some pretty kick ass synth rock. I like the way the second part never resolves the chord when it drops down while the wailing guitar lead overtakes the synth doing the main melody. Ikaruga's on the other hand was orchestral so it'll be more immediately appreciated--- if it helps, imagine an Under Defeat arrangement with a somber attitude, synth strings and lots of timpani =)
