Is this PSP topic okay to discuss here?

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

I've got an original USA Bios PSP with firmware version 1.50 and have various emulation & homebrew PSP shmups downloaded on the Memory Stick Pro Duo card itself. Now I have the original & legal copies of UMDs Ridge Racer & Wipeout Pure and would like to play them directly off the Memory Stick Pro Duo card rather than having to "lug" around the actual UMD discs themselves. (I do have both a 1GB & 2GB Memory Stick Pro Duo cards so that space management issues aren't a problem.) I downloaded the UMD Dumper program and managed to get the RR-PSP game program on my memory card. Now, how do I get it to be formatted properly so that my PSP can play it directly from the memory card & not from the UMD disc itself?

Step by step instructions would be greatly appreciated please.

Thanks again for your time, fellow shmuppers...

I thought I'd ask first and see what the mods have to say about this PSP topic. If they do lock this thread up...it's fine with me. Just wanted to be sure, though.

I don't think it's any worse than talking about using HDAdvance on PS2 provided that you're using your own personal UMD rips.

I haven't tried it myself, but once you have your rips, try getting your hands on UMD Emulator 0.8c or Fastloader 0.7. I believe either of those should be able to boot ISOs from the Memory Stick.
Failing that (or someone more knowledgeable giving you a better answer) have a look through the maxconsole forums. Those two programs should have some basic instructions in the readme also.

No, I too think the thread doesn't require locking... After all it's just as if asked about MAME settings... and not requesting any MAME roms.

Ripping your own UMDs/DVDs to load faster from other media is arguably fair use. It's only a legal problem when people share dumps. A site which contains information about legal PSP hacking is: http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk
