EURO PAL SONY PS-2 and Region 1: US, CA DVD Movies...

Post by ST Dragon »

Hello,
I have an un-modded EURO PAL SONY PS-2 Model 50004 and I would like to know if it can play original Region 1: US, CA NTSC DVD movies?

I have tried the Japanese NTSC Psyvariar II bonus movie DVD and it worked fine, but what about Region 1: US, CA movies?

Thanks in advance.

It will not play them without modification. I believe there is a DVD swap disc available that bypasses the region lockout though.

PAL PS2's can play NTSC no problem.. So your good to go after modification or swap disc purchase.

I noticed that Asian PS2's can play PAL discs through component video, which was a shock to me.

You shouldn't be shocked really.
I had a Hong Kong Asian region-Free SEGA Mega Drive back in the day, which could boot-up everything you threw at it!

Is there any kind of software region PS-2 boot-disc that will allow you to play movies from any region?
I have one for the Dreamcast, but it’s used for games.

Concerning the boot-disc:
Will I have to pry the PS-2 DVD open like you do with swap magic, or does it ask you to reset the PS-2 and insert the movie DVD once the boot-disc is loaded?

I found this:

Are they any good?

No. I think that all you need is an Action Replay, or DVD Region X. Once it loads, you open the tray, and load a DVD. And that's it. An extra perk of it is that you will also have all Macrovision removed from your movies, so you can watch your DVDs in full RGB quality.
Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.

3.DVD Region X
From Amazon:

Are these three the same product by the way?

I also found this:

4.Blaze DVD Region Free

I have a 21" Phillips standard interlaced component capable NTSC TV. If I play PAL discs on composite or svideo it plays cool but its in black and white. Switch to component video cables and BOOM! Full color and everything.

Must be like PAL60, except its NTSC50.. or something
