!! Need help importing files to GP2X !!

Post by Zweihander »

I ordered a GP2X, and I can't, for the life of me, find a simple drag-and-drop method of importing files to the SD card. You're supposed to be able to import stuff to it THROUGH THE GP2X, but lo and behold, this "USB Monitor" program-- necessary for your computer to even properly detect the GP2X connected via USB cable-- IS TOO COMPLICATED. Look at this crap. Does anyone have.. some kind of.. program or something, to just drag-and-drop? I spent $170 on this thing, and a grand total of $240 between it, a few accessories (including a useless TV-out plug which doesn't match my TV and is money lost), and shipping. I'd like to believe I didn't waste money on something not worth the hassle. Any help would be appreciated......................

Get a card reader. The USB on the GP2X is flaky to say the least.

Oh, and the TV-out plug is just supposed to be breakout cable for your own leads. That's why the S-Video end is female.

I'm sorry, but there's no need for the agro, You would have know all of this if you would have spent a few hours to learn about the device before jumping in head first.

I honestly thought there'd be a simple drag-and-drop interface. Thanks, gamepark holdings, for fucking me out of even more money. I'll get the card reader, but.. still... this is ridiculous, and very unappealing.

There certainly used to be a proper utility for loading software on, came with the GP32. It was the only way to load certain file types onto the machine due to some encryption, the rest of the time I used a card reader. It was called gplauncher or something. That usb monitor program is just that - a USB monitor.

Suspect user error coupled with poor documentation.

I only ever used my card reader with it. You can get one for under $15. After that it's just drag and drop with Windows Explorer (or whatever else you're using....)

While it's good to know that more people are using GP2X's, believe me when I say it's not a device for the clueless. It takes a little bit of knowledge and a bit more patience to get things running the way you want them.

But keep at it and once you've spent a bit of time with it, you'll get the hang of it.

Well, I got a card reader, then had a friend of mine hook me up with the roms (proper settings I couldn't do myself, etc..) and I took it the rest of the way. This thing is awesome, and sexy, aside from the crap joystick. ^^;; (WHY GPH WHY?!)

*goes back to playing GunHed on the thing*

Where can I get ahold of one of these? :/ This joystick is killing me. A D-pad would be awesome, does anyone here sell/ know of someone who sells their own homebrew D-pads?

PM DaveC on the gp32x boards. He makes his own replacement stick caps with a CNC lathe. I haven't gotten one myself but testimonials from other users are overwhelmingly positive. It's around $10, which I think it a bit steep.

With how much I've invested in this thing already, $10 is nothing if it means comfortable controls... thanks, i'll message him. ^^

Lord knows the guy should acquire the materials, do the work to create something both useful and beneficial and then tell others on the internet about it just so he can give it away for free. If he's going to charge ten bucks for something that had to be milled on a lathe, I'd hate to see what this vampire would charge for a paper airplane or origami frog. He's probably firing up a blunt with a Hamilton as I type this. Friggin' carpetbagger.
