Thinking of selling off my Saturn shmups...
Thinking of selling off my Saturn shmups...
Yeah, I just don't play 'em anymore. Now that I have a 360 I rarely pull out the old Saturn anymore, and there's no sense on just sitting on a ton of games that someone could enjoy if I'm not playing 'em.
This isn't a "Sale Thread", I'm just voicing an idea I had today. I'm getting fucked over on my tax return by my parents, and I think selling off a nice chunk of ye old Saturn collection could help me buy my new TV I've been wanting so desperately bad. Then I really COULD hop into the next generation of gaming!
Anyways, just a thought, I don't know if I'll put it up for sale on a forum (like here) or just slap it on Ebay. I'm leaning towards the forum route so I at least know they have a good home.
Also, what would a fair price be? I'm leaning towards $400 for the whole lot of shmups right now. Might sell off some other stuff too.

It would be sad to see you quit shmups altogether. At the same time I think there is no real reason to keep a bunch of games that you don't play and don't expect to play in the future. You are probably in the best position to know what the probability is that you will seriously regret having sold them. If the probability is high, don't sell. If low, sell.

lol A die hard Sega/2D fan selling all their Saturn shmups for $400 because they're too distracted by a 360 they already own. That is a cold concept for an April Fool's joke. Ice cold. lol
btw, jp. You seriously don't own a PS2, man? Not even for the all the shmups and Cave-y gravy? I'd still think of you first and foremost as "Loveable die hard Saturn addict jp" no matter what, I promise.

For an april fool's to work in these cynical times, you have to bend the rules a little.iatneH wrote:I thought he was serious... the timestamp says Apr.02

I have to make one every year... I just have to get creative is all.

I love April Fools Day, its so much fun. Granted, I always try to make my jokes a bit more obvious and non-harmful, that way those involved have some fun too.

And thanks for posting that link!!! I had forgotten how funny that one was.

Nope. I have never and will never own a Sony console. And I hate Cave anyways. *shrugs* But thanks for the reassurance.btw, jp. You seriously don't own a PS2, man? Not even for the all the shmups and Cave-y gravy?

Anyways, for those of you who enjoyed it, glad ya did!

I don't have time to play all the shmups that I've accumulated over the past years. But I keep them. They're about the only thing I "collect" now. They just give me a warm fuzzy feeling inside. For me, they're kind of like owning art, because that's essentialy what they are to me... in video game form.
And I do break the older ones out once in a while. Always a blast going back.

That's the great way to use a PS1, Sony will love this.

Jokes are usually funny only when there is a grain of truth in them. And that's part of what makes this joke funny, namely, that jp DOESN'T play shmups much anymore, right? All I hear you talk about lately is the Nintendo DS. A fine machine with an excellent library, I might add.
NO PS1!?! jp, why would you deny yourself the pleasures of a PS1? The Raidens, Twin Cobra in tate, Harmful Park, Metal Slug X, Zanac Neo, R-Type Delta-- just to name a few of the more obvious ones.

*shrugs* JP's made it pretty clear, numerous times on these forums, that he doesn't like Sony hardware, period. Otherwise, he'd probably have at least a PS1, because, yeah, there is plenty of great non-Cave shmupping to be had.professor ganson wrote:Jokes are usually funny only when there is a grain of truth in them. I don't agree with his sentiments, but to each his own on here, and none of us is going to change his mind.

That and whatever new DC shmups have come out is seriously all I've played this year. Well, I briefly played Dodonpachi and Strikers 1945 when I bought them, and then they went back into the pile after the first credit. Heh.
OH, and you're right for the most part. I don't talk about shmups much anymore, but last night I stayed up until 2AM playing TF Gold Pack 2 and Blast Wind, and when I woke up this morning? Hyper Duel.
Thus far Tecno Soft is the only shmup developer I've encountered that consistently has great music, great gameplay, great stories, great level design, and great enemy design... CONSISTENTLY. Most people lack one or the other (G.Rev has yet to have interesting enemies, Treasure did well with RS, but I think Ikaruga had lame enemies and level bgs, Raizing did well with Souky, but... well... you know... I could go on all day).
Edit: Well, to be honest, there are thus far 2 Tecno Soft shmups I don't like. Thunder Force II obviously, and for whatever reason Thunder Force V. Something about the gameplay doesn't sit well with me, feels rushed, and I don't know why.

Hmmm, what if somehow miraculously we got a killer Thunderforce 6 exclusive to Sony with creator interviews, image galleries and unlockable bonus content? Top it off with a Sony exclusive Nights or Burning Rangers sequel with cut levels and all kinds of extra goodies and I think a Sony system purchase would be inevitable. Devil's advocate. mwahaha

You are an evil evil man. Evil evil evil!
And this is why deep down I somewhat hope Tecno Soft stays dead and Sega keeps the Saturn franchises dead...

Well, everyone has a favorite shmup developer, and at least with Tecno Soft, you can get all of their shmups, with the exceptions of Elemental Master and the first Thunder Force, on the Saturn.Dylan1CC wrote:^^^^

Wowzers. That's quite a "scorched earth policy" you have there.jp wrote: And this is why deep down I somewhat hope Tecno Soft stays dead and Sega keeps the Saturn franchises dead...
Compile is far and away my favorite, but their shmups are spread across so many different consoles, and even computers, that it's ridiculous!
I do like the variety of shmups available on Sony hardware, so right now I'm trying to decide whether or not to get a Japanese PS2 this year, or wait and see if the PS3 does indeed turn out to be region-free; and if it does, if that capacity extends back to the PS2 and the PS1
