Gamecube and component
Gamecube and component
Do I really have to find an older gamecube and buy an expensive assed cable to use component with this console? Not looking to play in HD.
Re: Gamecube and component
Shouldn't be a problem finding a used one at a local games store that has the digital connector. BTW: if you are not looking to play in HD, then why do you want the component cable?Neon wrote:Do I really have to find an older gamecube and buy an expensive assed cable to use component with this console? So a GCN Component Cable can be modded three ways?...
Now if I were to get a plain vanilla Nintendo Gamecube Component Video Cable, can it be modded to output to a 21-pin Japanese RGB Cable (besides the usual 15 kHz to 31 kHz mod job)?
And is it possible to have just one Gamecube Component Video cable that can output three different ways on on just one cable (meaning outputs in progessive scan + 31 kHz PC output mod & 15 kHz mod to output in Japanese RGB output mode)?
Or would I have to have a seperate GCN Component Cable seperately modded do each of the above listed outputs seperately?
I do have a 3rd-party Innovation Gamecube VGA Adapter but it only converts analog S-Video to VGA...it doesn't look as sharp as if one were to use a modded GCN Component Video to output in true 31 kHz VGA signal support.

Yes, there is an official Japanese D-Terminal for GCN...
Thanks for heads up on the official Nintendo D-Terminal cable...yes, I do know about that particular cable but I would have to get an XRGB-2+ to take advantage of that cable setup.iatneH wrote:I think there is also an official Japanese D-terminal cable for GameCube, I don't know if this is what you're looking for PCEFanX..
I already have the XRGB-2 with the 21-pin RGB input so that is plenty enough for me as it is.
I do recall on the Japanese website by the name of "RGB Hospice" showing a modded GCN component cable that outputs in 21-pin Japanese RGB...so yes, it can be done.

Yes, you can do that. All that the Gamecube component/VGA cable mod does is make the DAC chip output RGB instead of component. The same cable is used for both 15khz RGB and 31khz VGA.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:And is it possible to have just one Gamecube Component Video cable that can output three different ways on on just one cable (meaning outputs in progessive scan + 31 kHz PC output mod & 15 kHz mod to output in Japanese RGB output mode)?

Any info of this mod? I need to make a 15khz RGB cable for my GameCube.matt wrote:Yes, you can do that. I use a modded JPN GCN D-Terminal to 31 kHz VGA signal...
For extrarice,
I've only got a modded Japanese Gamecube D-Terminal cable that outputs in 31 kHz VGA signal. (Of course, the Gamecube Component Video cable can do the same thing as the former.) You'd have to use the original Gamecube A/V cable to get audio as the D-Terminal only outputs the "graphics" portion and not the audio portion. A Gamecube can be modded to output in 'Digital Optical' format but requires a little bit of hacking to get it to work. The Panasonic Q console already has this latter audio option built-in from the get go. ^_~
The only problem is that one can't see the Gamecube start-up screen or access the Gamecube memory card manager...would have to use the regular A/V cable to get visuals that way...the Gamecube is smart enough to detect when it's hooked up to a 31 kHz or 15 kHz monitor setup so it can output in progressive scan mode.

I have used JP component cables on a US cube and it works perfectly. Any reason why it wouldn't?
The only difference between a JP cube and a US one is 2 or 3 different pins are connected for region compatibility. The rest of the machine is identical in every way. Well, internally.

The Euro Cube is a little different, but JP and US cubes are practically the same.
You can get component video cables from Nintendo's website. Just call the 1-800 number on the website and follow the prompts to get to their online support or store and ask for it.
I've bought a few for friends and such.

From what I've seen on N's website, the cable has been discontinued and is no longer available from Nintendo.neorichieb1971 wrote:The Euro Cube is a little different, but JP and US cubes are practically the same.

I dont know about europe, but if you live in the US you can just send the camecube back to nintendo. They will replace it with a refurbished unit with the digital port for free. Just call them on the phone, they are super helpful. I hear that nintendo of europe is a joke though...
And if you have HD display capabilities, then the component cable is WELLLL worth it. At standard resolution on a small tv its not too much different thatn s-video, but progressive scan mode is night and day. Its an incredible picture.

Yeah, I have one of the early Cubes (black Zelda history budle) with digital out, so I just need the cable. I'm looking forward to progressive scan modegrahf wrote:I dont know about europe, but if you live in the US you can just send the camecube back to nintendo.
