Toaplan music

Post by BrianC »

I have been playing some Toaplan games recently (just got Truxton for the Genesis). I noticed that many games from them seem to have some awesome music. Who is the composer for these games? Which Toaplan game's music do you like the best?

Fireshark, Batsugun, Truxton 1 & 2, Twin Cobras...hell, almost all of them!

Truxton II was my fave. But I've never heard the music for most of the later games becuase of the crappy emulation issues.

Even some of their not so later games like Fire Shark have some emulation issues. I'm glad that one has an excellent Genesis port. I love the music in that game.

Hishou Zame/Flying Shark/Sky Shark: Tatsuya Uemura, Masanori Yuge
Kyukyoku Tiger/Twin Cobra: Tatsuya Uemura, Masanori Yuge
Tatsujin/Truxton: Masanori Yuge
Hellfire: Tatsuya Uemura
Daisenpu/Twin Hawk: Osamu Ohta
Zero Wing: Tatsuya Uemura
Same! Same! Same/Fire Shark: Masanori Yuge
Out Zone: Tatsuya Uemura

It's a shame that I'm unwilling to pay the $8 to $10 plus shipping that it costs on Ebay (I'm cheap) because I really want this game. I loved Sky Shark to death.

You could do what I did and try to find the game at www.ebgames.com . I think they had it for $3.99 or $4.99. Do keep in mind that the cheapest shipping option is $1.99 and they do charge tax in most states. It balances out if you get more than one game, though. Also, beware the evils of Shark Tale when searching for Fire Shark.

Masanori Yuge rocks!

If any of you don't mind GS MIDI's, you may want to take a peek at the Truxton II collection in the arcade section of vgmusic.com. I commissioned them myself, and the process was definitely worth it. I'd even say that "Faze" turned out better than the arcade original...

Since PC Engine has been getting a lot of praise around here lately, I downloaded a few roms last night and messed around. One I tried was Daisenpu aka Twin Hawk...Daisenpu on PC Engine has a calm trippiness to the music/sfx that the arcade and Genesis versions lack. Definitely worth playing.

Batsugun is a must own for any shooters fan. It has great visual and audio style, and top gameplay. I recently got RGB for the Saturn and it was probably the most improved by it, being a colorful game. Huge upgrade from S-video.

I miss the good ole days when you can buy a Saturn shmup and get the soundtrack on CD for the same price. :(
