Police-themed shmups?

Post by xxx1993 »

What are some shmups out there that has a cop protagonist or has the police force as the protagonists? I can only think of Armed Police Unit Gallop, Armed Police Batrider, and Ginga Fukei Densetsu Sapphire.

I felt it's more like a PMC group than anything else.

If you count "singer turned crime sweeper" as police, then Jet Buster qualifies.

The game's not totally police-themed, but Officer Garterbelt in Bullet Soul even has the trademark spinny light on her ship.

On the first Chapter, Brown says that you could say that MSS is equivalent to the Police. MSS is the the special forces that the main protagonist works for.

I noticed. So it’s kinda like the JUNKER team from Snatcher or the FBI? Right? Or the Main Force Patrol from Mad Max?

More of a run 'n gun, but the theme fits:

Shikigami no Shiro kinda counts? Maybe? (most of) the main characters are supposed to be private investigators. Something like that.

I do recall hearing Kohtaro Kuga was said to be a freelance detective. And if I remember, Gennojo Hyuga works in the same agency as Kohtaro, right?

kinda reaching here for material, but on the bonus disc for Dezaemon Kids with all the DZ Plus games on it, one of them is Psychic Police P-PO! Scramble (サイキック·警察のP-PO!スクランブル), where you play as a flying anime dude who I guess is a police officer

Not specifically police-themed in the strictest sense, but the first stage of Einhander has you facing off with police.

VICE: Project Doom/Gun-Dec has two shmup themed levels. They're short n' sweet, but pretty fun nevertheless.

Not police-based per se, but the Spy Hunter and Super Spy Hunter games are closer to a law enforcement, car themed game than most shmups are.

Isn’t Spy Hunter spy themed? I know it uses the Peter Gunn theme (Peter Gunn is a detective show) but look at the car, it looks like something out of James Bond. Although Knight Rider did have KITT, and that one was police themed.
