An interesting idea - probably for the moment, best to keep them in seperate topics - this makes it easier later for people to search for games by topic.BulletMagnet wrote:Quick question on the new Reviews section: is it kosher to create a "My Reviews" type topic and just toss your reviews for several different games in there as you write them, rather than creating separate threads for each game you review, or would you prefer one's reviews grouped/ungrouped in a different manner?
There just aren't enough dedicated shmup sites...

Depends on your definition. I'm not sure we want a review of Rainbow Islands DS in there, but Mutant Storm, Asteroids, etc - seem reasonable.Dave_K. wrote:Is this section only for shmups? what about border liners, or even other genres like puzzle, platform, ... that people here may find interesting?

I am sorry but wouldn't allowing reviews for stuff like Metal Slug (which imo isn't even a border liner) be making for new confusion about what qualifies as a shmup? Not that I have anything to say about it but I'd love it to be a shmups review section as pure as possible. That's what this site is about!bloodflowers wrote:Depends on your definition. Puzzle games (@ Twitchdoctor: excluding Ikaruga
Oh and almost forgot: great idea for a new section, it somewhat solves the problems with updates on the main site. Thanks.

Roger. In case you do allow that in the future, I might suggest requiring those who keep such a topic to edit the topic title whenever they put up a new review (i.e. "BM's Reviews [Newest: Gradius III (Arcade) 4-5-06]"), to alert the keeper of the "Reviews Index" topic to update the list o' reviews (might as well make some use of it). Or something like that.bloodflowers wrote:An interesting idea - probably for the moment, best to keep them in seperate topics - this makes it easier later for people to search for games by topic.

I... uh, sent my review to malc's email address last Saturday, which was before you guys implemented the reviews section to these forums. Don't use that one though, since it contains some errors I just noticed after looking I sent it.
I'll probably put my review in there later tonight. Was going to do it now, but I currently lack the correct tools to do it.

Re: There just aren't enough dedicated shmup sites...
The Navy has been sucking like 99% of my free time away from me. I just don't have the time nor energy to maintain the website anymore. I know it is not even finished yet, and I regret that since it has become the source of inforamtion for the Raiden Fighters games. Over the last 3-4 months, I have been experiencing some HUGE personal and emotional problems regarding stress and bouts of depression. My life has literally become Hell since coming aboard my ship.circuitface wrote: ... and the Raiden Fighters Emporium hasn't been updated since like 2004 and it's not even finished!
If anyone is interested in taking over the Emporium, please PM me.

im thinking POV matters here,..
i did a review for Radilgy on another General Videogame forum... and my mindset there was "Shmups is still a living genre, Radilgy happens to be one of the many few who in the bunch of unknown games in the genre", being that a somewhat mainstream gaming place, i tried to "re-introduce" the genre as well as rating the game (Radilgy) as a single entity of being a "Videogame", and not necessarily being a "shmup"
but then of course, since, all of the people here are familiar to shmups, and know what to expect of shmups, i noticed you reviews go beyond rating the game for it's playability, but goes further into "How well does it rank up as a Shmup"...
you guys getting me?
so that's why i didnt post my review, yet.
