Warhawk for PS3 - video

Post by Thunder Force »

Warhawk running on early PS3 hardware at TGS

Pretty good display of PS3 hardware being used for an arcade style 3d shooter...

The original was one of the first PS games I ever played. Fun, though short game. Should be interesting to see what they do in the sequel.

HERE is a photo from the 2006 build of Warhawk, it's coming along nicely

Rumors of it being a launch title this November. :)

I have doubts that's realtime gamplay. It looks like a finished product on a machine the developers know very well.

I'd be shocked if the final build, or the REAL game looks half as good, and those water effects? Forget it.

It's a nice tech demo.

This E3 is when I will start to get interested at the more honest clips of games running in realtime on PS3. Fact is Sony has bull shited so much in regards to this machine, that I'm not having any of it till they have playable demos on the show floor.

Yup. I'll believe it when I see someone controlling that real time with their boomerang controller. Like those demos from the PS2. If all you're doing is handle a video loop, with no physics engine, no AI, nothing else but the graphics and motion, of course it's going to look killer. So did the Sega CD and 3DO full motion games back in the day.

Your mind tricks don't work on me anymore, Sony.

looks cool and why not.. warhawk was an awesome display of graphics and such when it was released all those years ago (still an okgame actually), this just makes sense :)

like most of you ill believe it when i see it but im totally getting the nextgen vibe from PS3/revolution rather than xbox360 (thisgen)...

Well that video was a 2005 alpha, it's likely that the final build on final hardware will probably look even better... I'm definitely looking forward to playing Warhawk this November. Kudos to Sony for putting a game genre like this in the launch lineup at all (if indeed it's a launch title).

Yes, I think final game will look a bit better actually and its 1st generation game don't forget about it;] And to Specineff: Sony decided to change the shape of the pad so you can forget boomerang already.

Oh, but I liked the boomerang. I doubt they'll be able to come up with something better than the dual shock or the Saturn's small pad. Heck, I want them to do something as nice as the controller S for the X-box.

as an xbox360 owner for the last 2 days, id completelt agree with this assessment.. The xbox360 is more along the lines of next thursday than next generation..at least thats the level the titles are showing..

however, "ANY" opportunity to play gratuitiously with drunken missles im taking :P

This is rumored to be a screenshot from Factor 5's Lair, running on early PS3 hardware

It's supposed to be a fantasy shooter, similar to their Rogue Squadron games this generation.

Thing is though, how can you be getting a vibe from 2 systems that have nothing to show as of yet. Tech demos don't cut it with me. Also the Rev is going to be quite under powered compared to PS3 and 360, as of current specs. Fine with me, as it'll keep the machine cheap but don't expect HD support or performance that matches the other two. That's not what Nintendo is shooting for. Infact, they've said numerous times that they don't want to compete with the others but rather be a completely different source of entertainment. In it's own league, it hopes.

I'm baffled by people who think the PS3 will blow the 360 out of the water, performance wise. The RSX is not a generation above 360s custom ATI GPU. Some say it's even a lesser piece of architecture. Cell is a bloody big chip and is unfamiliarand spread out. More powerful than the triple-cored Xenon? Yes but much more pomplex too. What matters though, is both consoles can spew out any kind of texture/normal/parallax/reflectoama/map you can think of. Neither have an advantage over the other. I predict the PS3 will chug a bit less when a large crowded amount of onscreen shit is doing it's thing but apart from that, all indications point to differences far less than those between PS2 and XBOX1 (XBOX 1 supported effects a generation higher than Ps2, such as bump mapping, not to mention the cpu was more than twice as fast.

All this talk about the PS3 being the end all be all of technical marvels reminds me of the Project Reality hype. Cycle, rinse, repeat.

youre hyper-over-reacting mate.. ive never said anything of the sort, nor would i ever make such a claim (maybe youre confusing shmups with gamefaqs?).

xbox360 is a fine piece of technology for sure (especially the controller!) but now that its out it should be blatantly obvious that its hardly the nextgen console to kill all other consoles.. ?

with that said i have yet to see a tech demo from hardware thats not even nearly done outshine the final product in such a way youre suggesting (well maybe 3DO  )...

My comment looked like it was pointing at you, eh? Sorry bout that. It's geared toward my annoyance at this general aura that PS3 will be the end all, without anything to prove this.

I don't believe this demo of Warhawk was created on any form of PS3 hardware. It was my mistake calling it a tech demo. I believe it to be a concept demo. As I mentioned, it is far too polished to be a realtime engine, working on an unfinalized dev kit no less.

360 games as of now are hardly using any of the Xenon's juice, and are quite honestly sloppily coded. Cept ffor a few IMO (Kameo, FNR3).

Anyway, fuck it all, I'm done. I like talking about gameplay more than graphics and specs and shit.
