Sigma Raijin - CPS2 - noob question

Post by antmavel »

Hi,

I am about to receive a Sigma Raijin. I don't much about the arcade world, just ramping up on knowledge. To play CPS2 games, do you need each time to buy the huge board that I am watching everyhwere ? Like the blue board (or sometimes gray for japan etc...). You don't change just the PCB inside ? SO if you want 10 games you have 10 hughe boards like that ? Sorry if this seems obvious but couldn't understand how this would work.

Thanks,

Board A is the mother board
Board b is the game board.

USA Europe are interchangeable.
South America and Asia have different A boards.

I would also add that Japanese A-Boards also work as well on US/European and vice versa

Basically the colors identify the region for CPS2. Blue is USA or Europe, Green is Japanese, Orange is Hispanic, Grey is Asia, and Yellow is rental (which can be any region iirc).

CPS2 comes in two parts the A-Board (think of it like a console system motherboard) and the B-Board (game cartridge). What made CPS2 nice is you can have one A-board, and just pop a new B-Board on it like a cartridge. It was a godsend to operators since most arcade games of that era were dedicated hardware and couldn't be switched for the most part. Tl;dr it saved them money.

CPS1 was one of the first to do this, but Neo-Geo and CPS2 take all the notoriety for it for good reason. They came in nice cases and made things easy to switch. Very enticing to arcade operators.

Personally, I buy an A board for every B board I own. Changing CPS2 boards is a royal pain, and it's really easy to get connection faults between the two.

Also, no idea what your Raijin comes with, but if you plan to play CPS2 fighters, you will also need a CPS2 kick-harness soldered to your Raijin's JAMMA harness to get all 6 buttons working.
