Metroid Prime Hunters
Metroid Prime Hunters
Most.Painful.Game.To.Play.Ever
They seriously fucked up by moving the gameplay to the top screen (this might be changeable?) Aiming by tapping on enemies was genious. Now I have to move with the d-pad, shoot with the L-Trigger, and look around with the touch screen.
My left hand is in severe pain because of this game. Ugh.

Re: Metroid Prime Hunters
I thought the game was supposed to have a bunch of alternate control settings so you could choose how you wanted to aim and look. I assumed you checked the options?jp wrote:They seriously fucked up by moving the gameplay to the top screen (this might be changeable?) Aiming by tapping on enemies was genious. If there is only one control scheme, that would be a real shame.
The controls are pretty hard to get used to it seems. Hopefully I'll master it with time. Other then the control schemes I think this game turned out quite well. It's also the first time I used the Wi-Fi. I'm pretty impressed with it.
Let’s get some friend codes posted. I'd like to try out other modes besides battle mode.

The story is basically the exact same thing as Prime.
The gameplay is less linear than the Prime games since you can do a lot of things in any order you choose (not everything, though), but individual areas are pretty straightforward. The game definitely encourages you to get familiar with your surroundings, though, because there are a LOT of escape sequences in this thing. If you always hated those in Metroid games, don't bother with this one. And it has the most devious morph ball maze in the entire series. Finally, the only upgrades you get are new weapons, missle expansions, ammo expansions, and energy tanks. Puzzles are more focused on observation than suit upgrades now, since... well, there aren't suit upgrades.
You do need different weapons for different doors, though.
Overall, it doesn't feel like a classic Metroid, but it does feel like a Metroid Prime game. Funny how that works. It's also quite good. My biggest complaint is that bosses get repeated, but it fits with the plot I guess. At the very least it's nice to have some fellow bounty hunters in the series, so it doesn't feel like Samus is the only person ever to go after these kinds of things.
Also, there are rumors that Metroid Dread is still being worked on, so if you want a 2D Metroid, hold out hope for that.
And if you like online FPS, especially arena style (like Quake III or the Unreal Tournament games), you'll love the multiplayer game here.

I am loving it. Single player is a lot of fun. I beat the second boss yesterday, while running out I was shaking. I don't know I was all tence fighting a hunter while tring to escape.
I like the controls a lot, they are very smooth. Its taking me a while to get totally used to it (lefty with stylus)
I played it online too, got my but kicked first game. Did a little better the second one. It rocks online, I need to practice.
O/T - I played Tetris online its sooo much fun. I won 3 of 4 so far.
I got them both on the same day, I love the DS. We need to start another thread for online battles for this and Tetris for friendcodes.

Yeah, Fusion led you by the nose too much. Metroid is supposed to be all about retracing your steps and exploring when you get a new item so you can get to new places. Zero Mission guided you also, but not as bad as Fusion did. Super Metroid FTW!Vexorg wrote:I'm still undecided on this one. I've also found the controls unwieldly on the demo units I've tried.

Don't judge the game by demo units. They usually have shitty calibration and are in the least comfortable position possible.Vexorg wrote:I'm still undecided on this one. Hunters has no hints at all, and once all four areas are open for exploration it's very non-linear. However, the structure is different from other Metroids... it's more focused on getting in, finding the Octolith, and getting the hell out. You're not constantly delving deeping into the planets as much as you're slowly picking away at them.extrarice wrote:Yeah, Fusion led you by the nose too much. I don't think any Metroid game is going to be able to top Super Metroid anytime soon. SM is just about as close to a "perfect" Metroid game as you're going to find. I suspect it'll be the first thing I download when I get my Revolution later this year.extrarice wrote:Yeah, Fusion led you by the nose too much. I consider Super Metroid to be the best in the series, but the original is the "true" Metroid in my opinion (and Metroid 2 is very close to that one as well). I liked the stories of Prime and Prime 2. I guess I'm just not into the FPS frag-fest that Hunters apparently is, which is why I'm waiting to buy until I read up on the single-player mode.sethsez wrote:I really wish people wouldn't act as if Super Metroid is the only game in the series. Whenever I see people talk about "true" Metroid it's always that one. Yes, it's a damn good game, and yes, it's probably the best in the series, but it's not the only form the series can use.

I imported two (Crystal White and Icy Blue),actually.iatneH wrote:DS controls hurt me too. Here's hoping the DS Lite is a bit more comfortable to use.
Did anybody import one, BTW? I thought there were like $200 USD from play-asia a while ago, and when I checked yesterday the price was $300 USD...
The DS-Lite is definitely way more comfortable to use,due to its smaller size and improved d-pad.
I'm thinking about selling off my extra unit (Icy Blue),which is still NIB. PM me if interested.

I ended up getting the game this weekend, and I haven't played much into it (a bit of singleplayer, a bit of arena against bots) but I am having a lot of difficulty with the controls. I find that because of the way I have to hold the DS with one hand to use stylus control, I have to have a flat surface available to play it, which makes it a lot less portable. I tried the button control, but found it too unresponsive. I have found that using larger stylus seems to help (I have several I use for PDAs at home, I think I bought a 4-pack of them for something like $12 at Staples.) I'd probably get annihilated online (I set up a game with two 1-star bots and 1 2-star bot and the 2-star bot hit the frag limit in 2 minutes) so it'll probably be a while before I try it.
