Disabling 16:9 Auto switch on Scart

Post by Overkill »

I've just grabed an old 1987 KV-19XMC Sony TV, unfortunately it doesn't come with the original RM-652 remote control any more. In some consoles, and with my GroovyMame PC it allways auto-switch to 16:9 mode, and with the remote control i have, i can't switch it back to 4:3. So, before going buy some new compatible remote controller, is there a way i can turn off this auto 16:9 switch?

This is controlled by pin 8 on the scart. If it autoswitches to 16:9, it means the voltage is below 9.5 volts.

Status & Aspect Ratio up

0–2 V → off
+5–8 V → on/16:9
+9.5–12 V → on/4:3

If you have a voltage source between 9.5-12V, you could just modify the cable from the switcher to output the correct voltage to choose input and aspect ratio.

If you don't want to hook up an external voltage source and don't have the voltage available from your source, you could also just try disconnecting the pin. It might be that with some TVs or automatic switchers etc. the signal is not recognized without pin 8, but with many devices this is just OK. Before I went all OSSC etc. I just removed pin 8 from the SCART switch -> TV cable so I don't have to change the aspect ration 20x a day.
