Desoldering Tool is a must in swooping CPS2 battery. :o It also helps alots in Console Joysticks modding.

And it is also quite cheap, so anyone of you know how to solder, get one of this tool, it's useful. :o

rtw wrote:I did some investigations into fans for the CPS2 a while back.

The one I finally bought was:

EBM PABST 612FL - 60x60x15 - 12V - 16dBA - 2650 RPM

http://www.ebmpapst.us/allpdfs/600F.PDF

You can by them from mouser.com the part number is: 5912-612FL

Make sure it's the 612FL, it has only an RPM of 2650.
I tried that one a few months back as well, except I bought the 612 model w/17.1CFM, 27db, 3900RPM, and 1.0W power draw. I have no idea what the CFM rating on the stock fan is, so I just settled on the one closer to the stock power draw (around 1.90W). The noise is cut in half (a little more quiet and perfect fit than the Sunon fan I tried before), and it seems to be enough airflow so I'm satisfied.

Just dug this up -- specs for the stock Nidec fan (D06R-12TH):

http://www.nidec.co.jp/OfficialHP/engli ... df/p25.pdf

Rated Input Power - 1.92W
Max Airflow - 17.66 CFM
Sound Level - 32 dBA
Speed - 5000 RPM

The fan is much louder than 32dBA after it gets worn down.

Note the airflow rating!

Thanks for that info, the NIDEC fan in my NAOMI is a TA225DC but it's probably an earlier model. So the 612F is a pretty accurate replacement! The 612FL I used has around 11 CFM. When testing it, I left it on for half a day and checked the temperature of the outgoing air, it was nice and cool. The NAOMI was going through the attract mode of DOA2 (Millenium).

Thanks for posting this. Only downside is apparently the price at $20 a pop.
I rather have a bit noisey one for US$2.56.

Noice partly due to the dusy connected on the fan, if you swoop it with a new one it becomes quieter. :o

I don't think there would be such a big difference between a US$20 fan and a US$2.56 one. :x

rtw - Yeah, the 612F is pretty close. I got lucky with the guess! Since you are pleased with the cooling of the 612FL, I'll give it a try next. It should be silent enough for a nuclear submarine. ;)

Well its been 10 years (plus six months) since I started this thread, and I'm happy to report that all my CPS2 games which had its battery replaced with 2100mAh full size AA (Tadiran TL5104/P) in Oct of 2005 are still going strong! But not to tempt fate, I think its time for another round of battery replacements, especially since I increased the number of CPS2 games and don't have any idea when those were last (or ever) replaced.

I think what I'm going to do this time around is take one game and put in a half size 910mAh AA battery (Tadiran TL5101/P) like the original and see if it stands up to another 10 years like the full size AA's. Now I just need to decide which game draws the short straw.

I also put a full AA Maxell (ER6C) in my CPS2 in 2006. It is still working. According to spec it is 1800mAh.
Since then, usage of the game has been very low so the battery had plenty of time to discharge.

I think it's time to change... The Maxell seems no longer in production, i will go for the AA Tadiran SL360/P. The rating is 2400mAh, i don't know if the increased density is a good thing (durability, leakages...).
There is also a AA SAFT (LS14500CNA) with 2600mAh !

Maybe i will try to cut the current battery pins and solder the new ones on them, to avoid heating the pads again.
(Although these round pins are easy to remove, unlike some troublesome flat pins.)

Actually, at the time, i also replaced my CPS2 and Naomi fans by the Papst mentioned above. I wonder if i read this topic 15 years ago.
** unrelated tip : if you have a Naomi, make sure to remove(or replace) the supercapacitor ASAP, before it start to eat the board.
