Help with a Pinout for VGA to DB15

Post by Fanatik »

I am trying to make a connection to convert a VGA Cable to a DB15 connector to use on my Mitsubishi XC3730. I am wondering what to do with the ground pin on the VGA side (I assume I will connect the R,G,B returns on the VGA side to R,G,B, Grounds on the XC3730 side) and which I should sync signals I should use (TTL or 0.3 Vp-p 75ohm)?

Pinout for standard VGA/xvga Pinout for DB15 Input on Mitsubishi XC3730

Pin 1 - Red 1 Red 0.7 Vp-p 75
Pin 2 - Green 2 Green 0.7 Vp-p 75
Pin 3 - Blue 3 Blue 0.7 Vp-p 75
Pin 4 - ID Bit 4 H/COMP-SYNC 0.3 Vp-p j75
Pin 5 - N/C 5 V-SYNC 0.3 Vp-p 75
Pin 6 - Red Return 6 "RESERVE" N.C.
Pin 7 - Green Return 7 "RESERVE" N.C.
Pin 8 - Blue Return 8 "RESERVE" N.C.
Pin 9 - No Pin 9 GND-(Red)
Pin 10 - Ground 10 GND-(Green)
Pin 11 - ID Bit 11 GND-(Blue)
Pin 12 - ID Bit 12 H-COMP-SYNC TTL
Pin 13 - Horizontal Sync 13 V-SYNC TTL
Pin 14 - Vertical Sync 14 "RESERVE" N.C.
Pin 15 - N/C 15 "RESERVE" N.C.

Er ... Presuming connecting to pc you should only wire the ttl levels for the sync .

VGA
Pin 1 - Red ->1
Pin 2 - Green ->2
Pin 3 - Blue ->3
Pin 4 - ID Bit
Pin 5 - N/C (vga rgb grd?)
Pin 6 - Red Return ->9
Pin 7 - Green Return ->10
Pin 8 - Blue Return -> 11
Pin 9 - No Pin
Pin 10 - Ground (vga sync grd?)
Pin 11 - ID Bit
Pin 12 - ID Bit
Pin 13 - Horizontal Sync ->12
Pin 14 - Vertical Sync ->13
Pin 15 - N/C

mitsubishi
1 Red 0.7 Vp-p 75
2 Green 0.7 Vp-p 75
3 Blue 0.7 Vp-p 75
4 H/COMP-SYNC 0.3 Vp-p j75
5 V-SYNC 0.3 Vp-p 75
6 "RESERVE" N.C.
7 "RESERVE" N.C.
8 "RESERVE" N.C.
9 GND-(Red)
10 GND-(Green)
11 GND-(Blue)
12 H-COMP-SYNC TTL
13 V-SYNC TTL
x 14 "RESERVE" N.C.
x 15 "RESERVE" N.C.

But yes not sure with ground on vga side ... I'd guess to just bridge the ground(s) (pins 5 (rgb grd) and 10 (sync grd) ) on vga to the rgb returns all on vga side.... it probably doesn't matter...

VGA grounds tend to all be connected inside your computer. You can meter this an test it. For something operating with digital TTL RGB, you shouldn't connect TTL ground to analog ground.

Which makes me wonder if wiring to the TTL sync will work as expected. Is there a toggle to switch between digital and analog RGB? If so, the set might expect TTL level RGB as well. Try it and see, i suppose, I don' have a better answer.
