Just thinking about this a bit.
Providing some of us don't overdose on smarties and die before our time, how do you plan to handle the slowing of your reflexes as you get old?
Guess we're just waiting for DoDonPachi: SeniorDieOwJowels?

I suppose a ball top joystick might be a bit better for older hands than curling around a controller.
Maybe there are some tame shmups out there for ageing reflexes...
Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.

The pain you will feel in your hands, wrists, and back when you play will completely negate any concerns about your slow reflexes.

I guess I'll stick to classics like R-Type and Gradius by that time. Games that don't require quick reflexes.

My life plan is to play as much arcade games as possible before I get too old. Once my hands can't keep up it'll be cRPGs all the way.

Reflexes are said to diminish real early in life, replaced of course by memory and experience.

In old age, it's best to keep one's reflexes sharp just in case of an aberrant driver coming towards you head-on (especially on a 2-lane country road -- where there's not much room for error in any given case). It's better to save yourself and let the other crazy driver die/get injured by his or her hand instead. I've been in some harrowing close-calls in this type of driving environment on those 2-lane country roads and it's good to have those sharp and fast reflexes just in case if anything happens. There were some times that I'd have to slam on my brakes & come to a complete stop suddenly to let the fucking asshole whom was passing another driver coming towards me head-on at the last second and cutting it quite fucking close. I'm not gonna let ol' Death with his Scythe get the best of me in that type of situation. So be it.

I recall on one fine weekday, I was driving behind an SUV and that person decided to make a 3-point turn right in front of me. Meanwhile I'm watching my rearview mirror to see if there's any on-coming traffic coming in my direction behind me (luckily, there was no on-coming traffic behind me that day -- but still the possibility that it could happen). The person in front of me making the 3-point turn on a 2-lane country road, that's asking for some potential serious shit to happen right there. What the fuck is with that shit, anyways?

I also have to contend with the infamous tule central valley fog conditions (if the weather is just right for fog to form) -- making for another crazy and dangerous driving situation right there.

I'll be playing more boardgames but my reflexes have always been ahead of those of my age-group so comparatively I'll be playing longer IFF I make it that is :D

How about preventing these issues with healthier eating habits and exercise? Good health is something I've always taken for granted, but since my mid 30's I've decided to keep this good health train going with much healthier eating habits and exercise. Personally found out that eating healthy also makes me immune to the common cold and flu's despite being around two always getting sick roommates, so must be doing something right.

Also stumbled upon Intermittent Fasting by accident, as recently my eating habits ending up mostly between 12pm to 6pm, with going to sleep at 10pm and getting up at 8am. Need to be more strict with this plus eliminate morning drink. So not sure how healthy this is yet, but worth trying to see if I notice any results. Would be interesting to try a real long term fast in the future as I hear the body goes in full repair mode with this (including stiff joints), if I can pull it off.

I actually heard once that skipping breakfast is one of the tricks used by sumo wrestlers because it slows your metabolism for the rest of the day and consequently your later meals pack on more pounds.

If I wanted to skip meals for some fasting program, I'd skip dinner. But I would be inclined to think simply lowering calorie intake over three meals would be healthier.

Eliminating drinking in the morning sounds incredibly unhealthy. Biochemically, your body can't repair shit without water. If you want your body to go full repair mode, set aside time to relax. It's the fight-or-flight stress response that inhibits repair systems the most, not nutrients.

Didn't say avoiding water. Meant for others things like sweetened tea or lemonade with honey, one of two things I like to start my mornings with.

As for skipping breakfast to slow metabolism for later, not sure on this, only heard someone mention this once. But the bigger the break between your last meal and sleep, the better the weight loss from my personal experience. How I accidentally stumbled upon intermediate fasting (which is supposed to help with weight loss too), as this resulted in not being too hungry first in the morning. So seems like intermediate fasting really does help with suppressing appetite (though this only works if you eat healthy foods. ie. I binge one day on take out, which sometimes happens, and I can't stop eating).

I've been feeling it for a while now. When I first got the SNES, I was 14, and doing 2 paper rounds that made me a tenner a week. Took me four/five weeks to save for a cart, and that shit got slapped or hard straight away, because I had to make it last. I out Contra III on hard when I got the SNES Mini and cried. Mind, the fact that that 8 used to play alone in perfect solitude helped. Now it's either around noisy kids, or half tanked when they're asleep.
