VGA Switch Box Recommendations

Post by Rupert H »

I'm after a VGA switch box with a minimum of three outputs to switch between my PC, 360 and DC. Can anybody recommend a decent one that doesn't degrade image quality or introduce lag? Preferably in the UK. I bought a cheap one years ago and it had nightmare levels of lag. How does lag get introduced with an analogue signal anyway?

I've been looking at this one. Does anybody have any experience with it?

I think you mean a minimum of three inputs... More than two outputs and you're looking at a distribution amp rather than a switch. And the only lag I've seen from a switcher was specifically a presentation switcher, which has a built-in scaler and is intended to scale various video formats/sizes to a single, preset resolution--a straight switcher wouldn't have a scaler like this.

Personally, I'd go with the Extron SW VGA series of switchers. You can find them on eBay, you can get them with or without audio support, and they can be configured for automatic switching. A cursory check of ebay.co.uk ("extron sw vga") shows the 4-port (SW4) models are plentiful in the UK, but, if you want the 6-port ones, you're looking at shipping from the US.

+1 on the Extron devices. If you're looking for multiple outputs as well, I recommend the Extron MVX series. I picked up an 8x8 Extron MVX and it works very well for my needs.

Yes, I meant inputs. >_<

Fantastic recommendation. That is so much better than what I was looking at as it switches the audio too. A steal at £20.

Thanks guys. Sold!

Looking more closely at these, I note each of the four inputs has a VGA and 3.5 audio jack, but how does the output connect to my speakers? There doesn’t seem to be a 3.5 audio jack for the output. I might just be being simple here.

retroconsoles accessories used to make audio connectors to connect the audio from your consoles and to the extron but I am not sure if she/he still does.. i just run separate audio wires to my AMP from the consoles wire audio output.

This is what you need: https://retro-access.com/products/rca-t ... itch-boxes

If you prefer 3.5mm out, request it in the notes and they will accommodate you.
