First trailer just came out. Any thoughts? Honestly, this is looking like the biggest Mission: Impossible yet. This trailer's also got me addicted to Imagine Dragons again.

I'm not normally into that kind of music but I admit I had to look up the song after the trailer. Pretty fun variation on the theme & we've come a long way since Limp Bizket lol
These movies are fun but in the future I'd like to see a return to the style of the original TV show. I recently picked up the first two seasons & I was very impressed by how well it holds up. I recommend s1e10: 'The Carriers'.

Hey!! it looks to be the biggest Mission: Impossible yet, also he got addicted to Imagine Dragons again. So ofc it deserves it...... But not really.

Re: Mission: Impossible - Fallout
I would rather see "Fallout : impossible mission" starring a similarly starstudded cast... yet another longstanding franchise-by-the-numbers-blockbuster does nothing for me..
ed: i must confess i quite like tom cruise tho, in a similar way i like charlie sheen.. two crazy assholes with absolutley amazing filmographys!!

Mission: Impossible is the one franchise that keeps getting better and better.

You guys could always derail it in a productive manner: By talking about the original series - cause that shit's quality!

Re: Mission: Impossible - Fallout
Yeah, I hate how the film series has hijacked the name of the old TV show. If they had called it The Adventures of Tom Cruise's Super Cool Self-Insert Spy OC (can't be bothered to even look up the name of his character) or something like that I wouldn't had any issues with it being its own thing.

Yeah the original TV series is wonderful stuff.8BA wrote:You guys could always derail it in a productive manner: By talking about the original series - cause that shit's quality!
It won't get you addicted to Imagine Dragons again though.

I honestly don't wanna fight about this. But I posted this because this movie is my most anticipated for 2018.Skykid wrote:No it doesn't. The first is still the best and following that would be III.xxx1993 wrote:Mission: Impossible is the one franchise that keeps getting better and better.

The fact it's your most anticipated film this... are we to take that as how disappointed you are with Hollywood or....?
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?
Re: Mission: Impossible - Fallout
Hey, there are other movies I'm looking forward to this year, not just this one. Death Wish, Pacific Rim: Uprising, Ready Player One, Avengers: Infinity War, Skyscraper, The Equalizer 2, just to name a few.
Re: Mission: Impossible - Fallout
Are those movies gonna get their own thread also?
Death Wish looks super awesome, just got addicted to Bruce Willis bald head again after watching the trailer.

Avengers: Infinity War got me addicted to movies made of cardboard again.

Re: Mission: Impossible - Fallout
I've been on a MI kick lately, so I watched every single episode of the original Mission Impossible last year (or was it over the last two years?) and have now started the 1989 series.
Original MI has three phases - Stephen Hill as Mr. Briggs, and then Early and Late Jim Phelps. (This is really simplified - there's also the Barbara Bain / Martin Landau & Leonard Nimoy eras, which are significant on their own; there's also some periods where Peter Lupus was missing and/or various folks played as IMF agents.) Script quality is all over the place, but generally the first two phases have enjoyable shows (often for comedy value or cuteness). Count out the revolving door of cast members, and there's really just two phases.
The late run played with the format and experimented with jazzy renditions of the main theme. Thankfully the original theme returned, but the show was never the same. Mr. Voice tells Jim "conventional law enforcement" is frozen out (so much for the Constitution) almost every week, as the main bad is "The Syndicate," aka Politically Correct Mafia in a no-fun series. There are great actors in guest roles throughout, but too often they're just asked to play hard types with no color. Likewise, the series locations often feel drab as many are just played out of LA skyscrapers with no special set dressing. The scripts aren't especially fun or noticeably better quality than the early series, and entertaining MacGuffins are mostly replaced for repetitive usage of double/triple agent gotcha gimmick plots. There are a few exceptions to each of these rules, of course, with the occasional memorable performance, location, or script.
The final insult is that the late run's credit sequence puts a godawful grainy image of The Hand With The Match, instead of the old Desilu style of memorable stills from the show. Since I like poring over the credits, I saw that damn image a whole lot.
The 1989 Writer's Strike series (with scripts left over from the original series) literally brought more color to the series than it's ever had, with a nostalgic semi-retro high-tech '80s feel that is often plausible and has aged well (in part because the film equipment was better than in the original run). An Australian production meant lots of good-looking locations (aside from the incredibly silly looking greenscreen backdrops seen occasionally in the pilot). The cast is good, the gadgets are cool, and the show's not so heavy-handed (to the point of hypocrisy) with the politics & social crusading as the original could be at its lowest. There are still goofs and needlessly complicated plot twists, but they generally serve the purpose of moving the show along.
In the old days Star Trek (MI's 'sister' production in the early years at Desilu) had a much smaller budget, yet its set designs and photography have mostly stood the test of time in comparison to the often drab looks on MI. I would bet that the 1989 series of MI has a budget roughly similar to Star Trek: The Next Generation, but the mixture of locations, practical effects, benefit of being a period piece rather than science-fiction, and judicious CGI usage often leaves MI looking just as good, if not better.

Re: Mission: Impossible - Fallout
I did end up getting the whole series + the 80's revival. Just started season 2 yesterday. Already Peter Graves is getting down & dirty with it moreso than Steven Hill ever did. Still like them both but it'll be nice to see how the stories can branch out unhindered from here.

I'm just worried about what the climax of the movie will be like. I'm hoping it's either the helicopter chase or the fight on the cliff between Ethan and Walker. I'm also worried about Solomon Lane. I hope he either dies or remains in custody.

I'm worried about whether the movie will end with a helicopter chase or a fight on a cliff too. Extremely worried.
I think I need to update my will tomorrow. Just, you know... just in case.
