Psyvariar Revision is, in fact, possible.
Re: Psyvariar Revision is impossible.
Player's fault or not, egregious/poorly-designed challenge (not saying that Psyvariar's is) can easily suck the fun out of a game for non-masochists, and it's perfectly reasonable to drop a game because of that. The game is what it is, but nobody's forcing you to beat the game. If dealing with that challenge doesn't appeal to you, then just set it aside.

Mushi Futari 1.0 Ultra and Mushi Ultra are pretty damn close to this.Obscura wrote:I don't think anyone would want to play a game where stage 1 is harder than DOJWL 2-5 and it only gets harder from there.

^^ This. I'd say psyvariar as a series is kind of overlooked, but if the buzz doesn't hook you then by all means just cast it aside... maybe watching a video of 2, because that took a nice step imho...Shepardus wrote:If dealing with that challenge doesn't appeal to you, then just set it aside.

Re: Psyvariar Revision is impossible.
Surprised to see a Psyvariar Revision thread pop up, since I just got this in the mail a few days ago. I loved Psyvariar 2 on Dreamcast and had this one on my list forever.
It took me a while to get back into the swing of things, but I was able to do a scrubby 1CC on my second day of playing. For the past two days I've been trying to find a medium spot between buzzing like crazy and actually being able to 1CC at a high level. My best run tonight, I was able to do 1 > 2C > 3A > 3A >X1. So, I guess one difficult one and two easy ones.

But how do you git gud when you run into wall?Bananamatic wrote:git gud
when you played shmup (i dont talk this exact one) for more than 20 hours and still cant manage past stage 3 or 4 on one credit, you just burn out after that and loose spirit.
same when after 50 attempts you still fail this or that

Re: Psyvariar Revision is impossible.
Then you play something else; come back to it later if you really want to.

then you're probably doing something wrong and you should probably figure out what it is instead of hitting your head against a wallqmish wrote: But how do you git gud when you run into wall?

Failing 50 Times is not a wall and 20 hours is not a long time for learning a game that's worth it.qmish wrote:But how do you git gud when you run into wall?Bananamatic wrote:git gud

Finally! I beat it! Now I can do Psyvariar 2! Now, I wonder how I'll reach the true final boss for that one...

Done. Now I gotta do Psyvariar 2, I don't know how long I'll struggle through that one.
Re: Psyvariar Revision is, in fact, possible.
Say... What happens if I play Psyvariar 2 with the non-buzzing option?
Re: Psyvariar Revision is, in fact, possible.
What does turning off the buzz area in the options menu do?
Re: Psyvariar Revision is, in fact, possible.
Shot type kinda sucks for score but might help you clear the game, differences are: destructive bomb, more damage, more energy from damaging and killing enemies, less energy from grazing, shorter shield duration from level up
Buzz area is just a graphical effect.

So is the shot type the "non-buzzing option" someone told me about earlier? Will that help me reach Area 6?

At long last, I finally beat both Psyvariar games! They won’t be of my concern anymore!

In any case, I'd love to see your uploaded run.

So what are your score in Psy Rev and Psy 2?

Re: Psyvariar Revision is, in fact, possible.
They're very easy to clear. It took me 3 days to clear Psy 2 when I got it. 1 for Psy Rev when I got it recently. And I'm not a great shmupper. I think that they're intentionally easy to clear so you can focus more on ridiculous scoring. Trying to pull off big chains AND clear the games is much harder.maximo310 wrote:xxx1993 wrote:Done. Right. The scrub goal is to clear the game. The non-scrub goal is to see the branching paths. The expert goal is I guess getting to lvl 999? Does it max out? I cleared with 79 tonight.xxx1993 wrote:Yeah, but reaching Gluon tends to be a bitch.
Re: Psyvariar Revision is, in fact, possible.
"Easy"
Looks like you guys are very good with micrododging and cleared "harder" games before that so it's "easy" to ya. For me every boss have patterns at which I still pretty much fail often etc. etc.
Though on the other hand I only play buzzing type and try to lvl up as I can (which unlocks harder patterns) because it's so addicting. So I haven't tried "the easiest way" with shooting type and quick stages.
Still, like the very third (stage 2) boss (spider) I have no idea how to survive other than speedkill during 2nd phase. Hell even stage 1 guy has some pure death for me

Re: Psyvariar Revision is, in fact, possible.
What's cool about the Taito G-Card version of Psyvariar Revision running on the Taito G-Net arcade platform is, if a skilled player manages to get to the final boss and beats the game, the resulting superplay is saved directly to the G-Card itself for posterity. You're even given the chance to play the same final boss after viewing the saved superplay in it's entirety. How cool is that? Famous music composer wasi303 aka Tetsuro Sato is the guy responsible for the cool BGM tunes used in the Taito G-Card version of Psy-R (and the Taito G-Card version of Psyvariar Medium Unit's BGM tunes as well).

Yeah, it's wasi303 & Oreo808 whom did most of the BGMs for both Psyvariar MU & Psy-R G-Cards.
