Guess I'll throw in some info:

In 2 player mode, both copters can not occupy the same space. You bump into each other much like in Ikaruga.

For each hour of play, you unlock an additional credit.

After nearly 6 hours of play (with one break in between for dinner) I've managed to single credit my way into stage 4. There isn't even a gradual rise of bullet density in the level... after about 30 seconds the stage just starts throwing everything at you (and it's a long level too). Plus there are these large cannons that fire lightning blasts at your copter that slow you down for about 5 seconds (you know, just long enough to get hit by all the other cannons firing regular shots at you).

One little thing bothers me though.. and it isn't the game.. but the layout of the LE DVD case. It seems that the inner flap which holds the GD-ROM (which I swapped with the audio CD) is designed to mangled the upper-right corner of the manual. Anyone else with an LE copy notice this?

Mine arrived today - enjoying it quite a bit. I do wish there was a bit more colour though, it does look a bit drab. Hitbox slightly hard to learn due to the semi into-the-screen nature of the graphics.

My biggest complaint is that the field of play seems small. I expect the ship to go halfway off the screen, but it can't even touch the sides.

Technically it's much better looking than Ikaruga. There's a lot more detail going on. But it lacks the art design Yasushi Suzuki graced Ikaruga with. It's still very pretty and the explosions are the best of any shmup.

To the game's defense, it does show you exactly where the hitbox is at the beginning of each level (there's a single point just below the rotor-base that has 3 glowing axial lines drawn through it).

However, I do find myself inadvertently running into stuff that I really ought not to. I think more familiarity with the hitbox will come with more play time.

Actually, given how much time any of us spend practicing a game, I really don't get the impatience. So what if I get my copy a week, a month or even a year after everyone else. It isn't like everyone has already 1cc'd every other quality shmup out there. No offense, but the people who can't wait a couple days for their copy to show up are apparently forgetting every other great shmup in their collection. I just don't get spoiling this with a stupid download.

Wait your time, it will only make this game better.

Piracy-related posts have been edited. Not acceptable in recent Ibara, etc threads, so also not acceptable here.

Under Defeat arrived today. I have to say that this is quite the lovely looking shmup. Besides the "typical" well done DC graphics that show it's still a match for the PS2, the pyrotechnics are among the best the old DC has put out, and the smoke effects are absolutely stunning. I've never seen a DC game handle the concept of smoking ruins, smoke plumes and explosion smoke as well as UD does. All the extra touches, like the craters left behind by explosions, the moving trees and other little things really give this game a polished feel. GRev did a great job with it from what I've seen thus far.

I've only made it up to Stage 3, but I'm enjoying the game quite a bit. If this really is to be the final DC game, then it'll going out in style.

I actaully think the DC is supereiar to PS2 in hardware, at least for the VGA graphic support. It just Sega once again lost the marketing war...

Just bought the LE off eBay (for 75$, not too bad I'd say).

What I really want to know is : How's the bonus disc ? Good guitar arranges and decent remixes ??

Yes. The remixes/arranged versions of stage 2 and 5 are fantastic. There's a medley track that actually mixes the themes together really well.

Good to hear. I hope Stage 3 is also well arranged, it's my personal favorite on the OST. Now I have even more reason to look foward to this wonderful title :) Am I right in assuming that the Dreamcast port has the extended/live guitar tracks instead of the original Arcade/Synth tracks ? Or was it just a bonus for the fans ?

I ask way too many music-related questions

whoo! just add a little bit after playingg for about four hours. Great explosions. Level 2 fighting the battle ships, is awsome. I like the rotation and option mechanics but the Raystorm-like perspective takes a little getting used to. The rocket option is my favorite. I think it works a lot better then Raystorm, maybe because of the Tate ratio. I can't wait to rotate my Wega next week.

The tunes are very nice. I just listined to the CD in my car and the tracks remind me a lot of Yack's Border Down OST-although not as good. Still, geat stuff.

It's pretty snazzy. The first half is just the arranged music from the DC game, which is good, and an improvement over the original. The rest are special arrangements by guest composers that go for different takes on the game's music. My favorite is a Jazz remix of the level 2 song. Neat stuff, beats an OST any day.

The one drag is that it's not complete. It doesn't have the boss tracks or what-not, though maybe those aren't different on the DC. I haven't listened closely to them.

The DC version has both original and arranged modes (like Mark of the Wolves did). Oddly enough it defaults to original, so you'll have to go into the options to turn the enhanced music on.

For anyone still thinking about buying the Sega Direct limited edition: Yakumo from Segagaga Domain just told me he's got 2 copies left of the Sega Direct limited edition and he will get 20 more on Tuesday. Since Sega stated that they are sold out, this may be your last chance to get a Sega Direct LE Copy (with sticker and poster) for a good price.
