Commodore 1084s sync issues.

Post by Syntax »

Ive recently acquired a 1084s monitor thats working fine but i have some issues syncing with a few systems.
It expects ttl level sync.

My N64RGB kit wired to either Cs or ttl Cs works fine which is confusing.

My NESRGB kit wired to Cs which is supposed to be ttl and 75 compatible will not sync. Tim even quotes this monitors model as ttl i figured it should work.
https://etim.net.au/nesrgb/rgb_connector.htm

My SNES with rgb bypass and buffered csync will not sync.

All cables have 0 components and connections tested.

So what magic is the N64RGB kit pulling to make both syncs work?

Just fit a lm1881n stripper to the monitor and the results are:-

N64RGB syncs on composite video for sync, with lots of noise on screen.
N64RGB syncs perfectly with csync 75

Snes wont sync with composite video for sync
Snes syncs perfectly with csync 75

NESRGB wont sync with composite video for sync
NESRGB syncs perfectly with csync

Tested with 2 separate lm1881n, 470 ohm inline output and 75 ohm input terminations tested and tested with 5v, then with 12v. Same results.
(470 ohm caused N64 composite video for sync to be really noisy)
Built like this

Super confused.....

Which 1084 monitor is it? If it's the Daewoo one with the Sub. D connector for video input, it features a 470 ohm input resistance for the sync. It's best to use an LM1881, but no series resistor on the output, just connect it straight to the sync input on the monitor.

Also, don't power an LM1881 from 12V. It gives you 12V sync pulses on the output and nobody wants that...

Ah 12v sync pulses that's why the N64 looked like crap when running composite video through the LM1881.
@12v though the csync image off each system was clean and noise free? If you feed csync into a stripper does it sort of just shoot through amped a bit?

Csync attempts worked fine with 470 ohms on the output, so that would make the series resistance nearly 1k, and all csync still worked fine.

It is the Daewoo series, so why is my LM1881 not working with composite video?

Ive tried on 5v with no series resistor but the only thing that syncs is the N64 and poorly at that.

I figured atleast the NESRGB should work off the get go like the N64RGB or did you build the sync differently for those 2 boards?

Ill have a GScart switch in the next few days to test its sync cleaner in a few days but I'm still baffeled why it will only take csync boosted via a csync signal.
