Let me repeat that, the PS3 will be REGION FREE FOR GAMES!!!! Shooter fans, you can start rejoicing.

I normally don't get caught up in pre-release system hype, but WOW. That's some damn fine news for somebody like me who has been importing since the early Saturn days. Even today, over 1/4 of my game purchases are Japanese imports.

Let's just hope MS starts encouraging region-free coded games to combat this, I want to play Senko no Ronde. Or hope for a PS3 (or DC) port.

If this applies to backwards compatibility and means you can play and PS1, PS2, and PS3 game from any region, that will be great indeed. If they make Toaplan shooting battle playable at full speed too, I'll pee my pants.

Ah, sorry... lock if you want. I thought there was no post on this, didn't check off-topic forum - I just scanned the main forum headlines. And besides, I couldn't imagine this being anything close to off-topic for any fan of shmups who isn't in Japan. That and I was excited enough I may have missed it anyway.

But anyway, WHOOOO!!!! Now let's get us an announcement of Ibara 2, or Ketsui, or Shikigami 3 as Japanese launch titles for PS3...
