[6] [Guardian Force (Saturn)]

Hmm... I don't think these will pass as shooters as neither did Nova Strom (Border Liner) or Gunstar Heroes (Platform Shooter) and as for Guelilla Wars, since it does not scroll automatically, it would be considered an 8-way action shooter.

[24] [Metal Slug 3 (Neo Geo)] (Platform Shooter)
[15] [Guerilla Wars (NES)] (8-Way Action shooters)
[14] [Star Fox (SNES)] (Border Liner)
I would change those four.

Other than that, that's an interesting list you came up with there ;)

Haha, I'm not changing my list, the people in charge will simply have to ignore my choices if they don't consider them as shooters (which they should be!) :D . I stand strong with my list 8) .

Of course! ;)
You're entitled to keep your list as is, but if they don't count those four games, then your votes will simply have less impact in the final score of the poll.
But they will most likely not count them as it is clearly stated:
07) No Borderliners! Stuff that's off-limits generally include: "run-and-gun" (think Contra or Mercs); arena shooters (Robotron, Smash TV, etc.); on-rails/into-the-screen shooters (Rez, Panzer Dragoon, Space Harrier, etc.). Stuff like Space Invaders and Galaga are OK.
As for border liners, Space Harrier and Star Fox is debatable of whether they're shooters or not, since I would have liked to add Nova Storm (PC) in my vote instead of Kamui, but Metal Slug 3 & Guerilla Wars, are definitely not shoot em ups! ;)
They’re Gun N Run & 8-Way over-head Action games (Respectively). 8)

Yeah, it does... especially considering that Nova Storm (PC) is so much more fun and superior to DoDonPachi!

There I said it!

I'm going to burn in the fiery pits of gaming/flaming hell for that, especially in this specific thread, but all I can say is... Bring it All! 8)

Well, you’re welcomed to come to Greece any time and enjoy my grandma's cooking ;)

Sadly, we don't have any Arcades anymore, thanks to this bitch reporter: "Makis Triantafilopoulos", who convinced the retarded Greek government around late 2001 to shut them down as a threat to society! :x

The Bitch:

And it's sad really as Arcades flourished greatly in Greece from the 80's all the way to late 2000!
Thousand gamer visit them every day (Similar to Mexico)

This guy is going to burn in the fiery pits of hell and be tormented for all of eternity!

Shocky wrote:I removed Novastorm now. What it lacks in gameplay, it sure takes back in amazing graphics and especially in music!
I remember that game very well, especially the music which seemed stellar at the time, on the PC version at least. Gameplay was also way above average for an FMV shooter. Then I was disappointed with the PS1 version much later, which was Novastorm in name only and otherwise a completely different (and inferior imo) playing and sounding game, despite coming on 2-discs and having higher quality visuals.

Wow, I don't know about that... :o
Shocky wrote:I'm pretty amazed though how Philosoma doesn't get any votes.. maybe ppl didn't play it enough and never knew how it gets better stage by stage. The cinematics were of super high quality too.
When I imported Philosoma upon release, I was crazy about it for months afterwards. A tour-de-force for my JP import Playstation. I still need to pick up the PS2 adventure sequel Phase Paradox someday. Philosoma was a total assault on the senses and had narrative and presentation way beyond anything that had come before, but on balance I can't justify letting it anywhere near my Top Shmups list due to gameplay issues.

Yes, I'm afraid this is very true!
In late 2001-2002, he basically accused all Arcade PCBs that they can easily be converted to illegal betting "Fruit machines" thus being a threat to Greek society as a lot of people would spend all their money savings on them.

Basically he saw it as very convenient way to raise his TV ratings/marks, so he started all these TV shows & campaigns (In two different TV channels) accusing all those old poor Cave, Psikyo, Toaplan & SEGA, PCBs as well as all Daytona USA, Tekken, Scud Race, Virtua Fighter, etc… PCBs, that they’re the tools of the devil and that the evil Arcade owners were making huge profits from illegal bets taking place in their halls, by converting the PCBs to fruit machines on the fly, by just a press a button!
“People would sell their houses and spend all their life savings on these devil machines”, as he said back then!

Soon after the government & local authorities were informed and troubled by the huge publicity of the matter, they decided to take drastic measures and close them all down as a threat & plague against society!
They didn’t even bother to send technicians and check which ones could and which could not be converted; they just closed them all down and declared them illegal as if they were drugs!

What’s funny (Or tragic, depending how you see it!) is that at the time of the said events, if you were caught playing your GBA, Atari Lynx, or Game Gear in public, you could very well be accused/prosecuted for conducting illegal bets in public, jailed and fined!
That of course didn’t last too long, but in theory this law still applies in Greece even today! :!:

Of course the government and local authorities didn’t really give jack shit about the people’s wallets, what they really cared about was that if those “illegal” Arcade-PCB bets were taking place, they would be losing a lot of money from taxes not being paid and so would the Greek Casinos’ with their “Legal Fruit Machines” since they would be losing customers.
The government wouldn’t want to lose votes either.

So, as a result a lot of legitimate Arcade owners who had invested legal money on opening Arcade Halls, saw their businesses ruined and shut down in the name “of the common good”! As the bitch said at the time. :?

Ultimately, the only one that profited from all this, was the bitch!
After that, he raised his TV ratings / marks so high that he is now considered one of the most well paid reporters in the Greek show-biz and runs his own two TV shows.

Today there are absolutely no Arcade Halls or Gallerias in Greece, so I never got to play Tekken 5, Under Defeat, nor any of the newer cool SNK beat em ups like KOF 2002, 2003, Samurai Shodown 5, Rage of the Dragons, Matrimelee, Metal Slug 5, SNK VS Capcom: Chaos, non of the newer Capcom arcades or any newer arcade shooter and of course no Mushihimesama! :(

One of the reasons I have not tried ordering any Arcade PCBs from abroad, is because they are considered illegal and when it passes through customs, I’ll probably be jailed or fined as if I was smuggling drugs or weapons!

My most vivid childhood memories are from the 80s & 90s playing all those cool arcades at my local Halls & gallerias.
I remember having to wait in line to play Marvel Vs Capcom 1 & 2, Metal Slug 3, Carrier Airwing, Varth, U.N Squadron... all those moments, priceless.
Now they’re all gone!

What can I say, that sucks! :?
