PAL Wii able to play NTSC VC game downloads?
PAL Wii able to play NTSC VC game downloads?
I've been an avid CRT retro gamer for some time. I use Wii+emulators to get my retro fix, mainly because my PAL Wii limits me to a Virtual Console library of 50Hz only abominations! But with the closure of the Wii Shopping Channel approaching, I'm looking for a solution to being able to download and play legitimately purchased NTSC Virtual Console titles. I've been fiddling with the "region changer" app in Homebrew Channel, I am able to access the USA region Wii Shopping Channel, and even download some free WiiWare demos. When I go to start one I get a black screen with the message "Unable to start this Channel". I've determined it's because my Wii is PAL restricted somehow. Does anyone know how I can solve this problem and get NTSC downloads to load? Is there a Homebrew app that will bypass this restriction?

You can install a thing called Priiloader. Once installed, from what I remember, you hold A whilst switching on your Wii to get to the priiloader menu. There are loads of options, one of which is the any region changer. That's should do it.
I still ran into trouble with certain Japanese games. Mr. Do and Starblade - which were only available in the Japanese Wii shop - still wouldn't load, so I had to patch the wad file.

Just tried this. There's no region changer on the version I've got, but there is the ability to launch from a list of games, it allowed me to launch an NTSC Super Mario 64 Virtual Console file which I got from a WAD this way. Still can't launch it as a channel from the main Wii menu though.

Are the originally NTSC-only games (like S&P) also 50 Hz on PAL VC? That would be a bit much even by Nintendo standards.

You can use freethewads to make VC/WiiWare games region free before you install them. I'm on PAL and have done it a lot. If you want to go the legit route then just buy then install the wads.
No they're 60hz.Obiwanshinobi wrote:Are the originally NTSC-only games (like S&P) also 50 Hz on PAL VC? That would be a bit much even by Nintendo standards.
