Micomsoft SC-512N1-L Component Problem

Post by Woomy »

I have not ever been able to use SC-512N1-L's or PEXCAPHD's component video capture (that I've had for over 2 years now) due to an awful problem where the entire screen's video colors/brightness pulsate. This is a real thorn in my side because those are the only cards I have which support 240p capture over component. Over the years as a workaround I've been using a LeadTek 2300H to capture 240p but it captures it in interlaced format and is kind of iffy.

The fact that the same issue happens on my SC-512 and BOTH my PEXCAPHD's mean that I don't think my individual cards are defective.

The problem happens with ALL/ANY component sources. I've tried Wii, PS2, and YPbPr modifid 240p retro consoles. So I don't think it's my source. The problem happens directly connected or through a splitter. When using a splitter, the CRT TV and the LCD TV do not exhibit this pulsating and yet the capture card does.

I have put pictures on Imgur here and more details there

I would really appreciate any ideas anyone may have as to what I can try to get to the bottom of this problem.

edit: here is a mouse-over image comparison

have you tried different drivers? the PEXHDCAP is notorious for exhibiting different defects depending on which version of the driver you use.

Sorry for the long delay in responding -- it took me a lot of time to test all the possible combinations. None of them worked. Every single combination of everything exhibits the component problem.

I tried two different PEXHDCAP cards and my SC-512N1-L card in two different PCs with every possible combination of PC/Card/and all of the following driver versions:
- 1.1.0.122.5.1
- 1.1.0.124.4
- 1.1.0.140.1
- 1.1.0.168.0
- 1.1.0.176.0 (Version I found on YUAN's site)

None of these combinations work. Most combinations exhibit the video color pulsating problem and a few of them have no video at all (with the very early driver 122.5.1)

I also tried VirtualDub, Amarec, AND OBS. No difference. I don't understand how a single person on the planet can possibly have working stable YPbPr/Component capture from these cards. I have tried every possible combination of things imaginable to make this work. If somebody exists who doesn't have this problem, can you please post your exact setup and configs?

I have a PEXHDCAP and I have to admit, I have never seen this issue when playing my PSP through component. I don't know what to suggest tbh, other than my initial suggestion of different drivers :/

The driver I use is the YUAN 1.1.0.108

Yeah, just tested my PSP through component again, and I don't get any such issues with this driver

With a problem like this it's best to supply raw video via Google Drive or something for analysis.
