BVM takes a while to get to full brightness
Hi all - After it overheated, my BVM-20E1E is taking about 15 seconds to get to full brightness when turned on. At that point it looks great- - the same vivid razor sharp image as ever. I'm just wondering it's something to do with the tube or something easily fixed with something like a cap replacement. In fact, I can't really 100% remember if it did this before it overheated - could this in fact be normal?

Overheated? Why did it overheat in the first place? It's not supposed to overheat.andykara2003 wrote:Hi all - After it overheated

Re: BVM takes a while to get to full brightness
Unfortunately, while I was building my setup, the unit happened to be in an enclosed space with the top vent obstructed when we had a power cut. I was unaware that there was a setting enabled that will power the monitor on automatically when it gets ac power to the plug. I've changed this setting now, but the monitor was on for 3 days and when I finally got to it there was an overheated electrical smell.
My fault of course, and the monitor still works perfectly apart from the slower startup - but the OCD in me would like to correct anything that might need it. Is there anyone here with a 20" BVM who could confirm the time length to full brightness upon startup on their unit? I'm also aware that this could just be my OCD and the monitor is fine..

How do you switch that setting off andykara, is that Standby Mode? I know I've had a power blip every now and then, and I'll discover the monitor's on when I come home or when I wake up...

I'm sorry, I can't remember - I found it pretty easily though, just have flick through the settings & it'll be there.. Would you be able to confirm the startup time?

Cool, I'll take a look! And mine's bright relatively quick, maybe slightly less than 15 secs, but it does feel like it has a longer boot up than most CRT's I've used. I can take a look later.

I would like to know this as well - specifically if there's a way to automatically power the monitor off if left on with no signal by accident (which I do way too often running up the hours on my BVM...).andykara2003 wrote:I was unaware that there was a setting enabled that will power the monitor on automatically when it gets ac power to the plug. No problem! Actually just measured it, from a cold boot it was roughly 15 seconds until full brightness. Turned off the monitor, then re-turned on the monitor after a minute, the time to full brightness was about 12 seconds. Looks like your monitor is functioning normally!

Thanks very much for doing that - really appreciated :)
Great to know it's not a problem! I'm sorry I couldn't find that setting though - I've seen that a PDF of the manual's online though so it should be in there..
