I heard a rumor that because of UD's excellent sales and the 360's poor sales that G.Rev was considering releasing Senko no Ronde on the DC.

Just a rumor. And I probably heard it from someone on this very board.

it has been confirmed by Milestone already that UD will NOT be the last DC game.

what that scary message means is that it will be the last Dreamcast package ever sold by sega direct. After the infamous law against selling used consoles passes, sega direct wont be allowed to sell dreamcast systems anymore, but there's no problem with selling the games.

again, we have YET to see the last Dreamcast game. so party on!

That law will not forbid selling old consoles/computers, afaik. It's only about old electrical appliances like hair-dryers, toasters and such.

Not too surprising, #1 selling game soft on Sega Direct anyone?

I guess G.Rev is going to be happy! I wonder what the print run came out to. Hopefully the people waiting for release and reviews can still get copies from NCSX/Play-Asia/etc. for the next couple of weeks.

Damn, I didn't want to spend any money on games just now, but I also don't want to pay much more later, as I had to with Border Down.

Pretty much the philosophy I had when putting in my pre-order. I bought BD new and actualy wasn't too much of a fan of it. Don't know if I'll even like UD, but there's pretty much no way I can lose by purchasing it new.

Ceph, see discussion around CIT's post earlier in this thread where he pointed out the law does indeed apply to refurbished Dreamcasts:

Wha? I must know more about this.

Also, if people are hoarding/buying multiple copies of a game, it's probably not going to be all that rare or valuable. See: Ikaruga. But it may be a small enough number of people doing this that it doesn't matter.

That Warashi game? It has seibu staff working on it...

That seems like Treasure employees working for the team that did gunner's heaven, doesn't it? I always thought of Warashi as mediocre seibu imitators. Well maybe they'll pull something out. I do love Seibu's games a lot.

Under Defeat almost seems to have shades of Seibu to its bullet patterns. Always like some old school flavor.

Funnily, I always thought of Seibu as mediocre Toaplan imitators.

Anyway, it is often said that Warashi has ex-Seibu staff, but I don't think it has ever been confirmed 100%. You can definitely see similarities between Shienryu and Raiden and Sengeki Striker and Raider Fighters series though, so I suspect it is true.

That is weird, because here it says:
Mutantfrog.com http://www.mutantfrog.com/2006/02/22/2nd-hand-electronics-sales-will-not-soon-be-illegal-in-japan/ wrote: Domestic non-lease sales are not being flat-out banned anyway, they are simply requiring an inspection. So what is the inspection?

By law, a retailer can become a “manufacturer,” authorized to conduct safety inspections and affix PSE labels, simply by registering with the ministry.

Registered “manufacturers” may attach PSE labels after confirming three very simple things: the product looks fine, works properly when turned on, and does not leak electricity at 1,000 volts.
So Sega could continue selling DCs as long as they want.

Uh, I thought it was pretty widely known that Warashi was formed from Athena staff since, you know, Shienryu is almost the same game as Daioh, and has the exact same staff.

Never heard of any Seibu connection except that they make obvious attempts to mimic their style. I see not one overlapping staff member on any of the games I've looked at. Unless they left to Athena immediately following Raiden 1 and made Strike Gunner a few months later, I'm calling bullshit.

Oh, and I don't get the Toaplan comment. I don't think Seibu's game play much like Toaplan games at all. Which you prefer is another matter, but I don't see any direct borrowing, and certainly no where near the plagerism committed by Shienryu.

Rando has covered it in more detail, IIRC Raiden stole a song from flying shark, and gameplay elements from kyukyoku tiger (transforming powerups based on time). Then in DX they applied the timing thing to medalling as well.

Toaplan are hugely influential, particularly for Raizing, Cave, Data East, whoever the smeg made Gekirindan (Taito I think?), Takumi, basically everyone good.

Play-asia is shipping the game now. And I'll be damned, I was wrong. BOTH versions come in DVD cases! The regular version's cover is the same as the promo flyer (I actually like this cover better than the LE edition), so I'm VERY happy I ordered that as I really don't care about the soundtrack CD. Here's the full info quoted from PA.com:

Both versions of Under Defeat are shipping in DVD type cases with different artworks. The regular version artwork is red colored and identical to the one we have seen on G.Rev's promotional flyer. The Limited Edition artwork is white colored with different background.

To summarize the link: DVD case, arranged soundtrack, image gallery, ability to make your own replays. Nice.

Also nice to see Play asia isn't screwing us out of the preorder extra this time (even if it is just a sticker...).

I've already forgot, can someone summarize the scoring system again? Something about needing to stay on the last life to keep the rank low.

I like the epic look of the LE

It reminds me of SNK's DC JPN Garou cover

either way you win, IMO

Not me... while I like the spartan white background of the LE, I think I prefer the art of the regular edition. The main pilot looks more despondent in the LE cover. In the regular edition cover, she looks more defiant, more militant, more hopeful - like she could fight her way out from under defeat.

From NCSX (March 21st, 2006):

Under Defeat Limited Edition
Shipments of G.Rev's latest LE are scheduled to arrive tomorrow and all preorders for the limited edition will ship on Wednesday.

We were allocated a bonus Under Defeat decal with the limited edition of the game but only in a 1:2 ratio. That means we will receive 1 bonus decal with every 2 copies of the game. Due to this allocation, we will include the decal with early preorders. We are however checking with suppliers for any surplus decals that might be available for us to purchase separately.

Please note that due to the Shunbun-no-hi holiday in Japan last night, our shipments of the regular edition of Under Defeat will not arrive tomorrow but are now slated for Thursday. Both versions are packaged in a DVD case which may prove to be a conundrum in square-sized DC libraries.

With Under Defeat taken care of, we focus on our attention on getting Senko no Ronde for the Dreamcast. We figure as long as 3500-5000 DC preorders are assured, G.Rev may consider a Dreamcast port since those numbers will probably match how many Senko no Ronde will eventually sell on the Japanese Xbox 360.

This one kinda slipped under my radar (so anxiously awaiting Ibara and Pop'n Music 12). Can someone describe gameplay? Looks sort of like a Zero Gunner 2 clone...

speaking of the music- (if I may derail)- anyone know who's involved in this latest effort of Grev's. As far as I know Yack is not involved. And thats about all I know.

-I have been seriously digging Border Down's soundtrack lately. It's making me pay more attention to the other Tatio shooters of the 90's. I can't believe I used to think BD's soundtrack was garbage when I first picked it up. Geat stuff!!
