Extron Rgb-hdmi 300A SNES
Extron Rgb-hdmi 300A SNES
What components does An RGB-HDMI 300A cable need in it to get the snes to sync properly with it?
Re: Extron Rgb-hdmi 300A SNES
input on the Extron has to be at least 31khz (480p), so you can't connect a 15khz source (like a SNES) directly to it.
Re: Extron Rgb-hdmi 300A SNES
yet the specs says it takes RGBS. I never heard of any RGBS sources that werent 15 khz.
arent all the 31 khz sources RGBHV?
What model extron would i need in addition to this?

Re: Extron Rgb-hdmi 300A SNES
Playstation 2 in 31khz is RGsB and I guess some workstations might have been RGBs as well.arent all the 31 khz sources RGBHV?
maybe an OSSC would be a better choice for you. What model extron would i need in addition to this?
Re: Extron Rgb-hdmi 300A SNES
Is there another extron box i could use with this that converts 15khz into 31khz vga?
I already have the RGB-HDMI 300A.

Re: Extron Rgb-hdmi 300A SNES
Plenty, e.g. something like the DVS 304, but none that I particularly liked for processing 240p from a video game system.
Re: Extron Rgb-hdmi 300A SNES
any extron that does a decent job, as in better than composite? it doesnt have to be perfect but it just has to be better than the "signal not found" that i get out of the TV now.
Re: Extron Rgb-hdmi 300A SNES
the DVS units are as good as it gets for Extron units. You will probably need clean sync on the your RGB cable though (CSYNC instead of composite or luma).
Re: Extron Rgb-hdmi 300A SNES
thanks for reccomending the DVS extron. I bought one and am going to set it up today.
One thing though -this thing is giant. Its about the same width and depth as my MVX 128. Its designed to mount in a rack i guess. I was hoping to slide it under one side of my flatscreen but i dont think thats going to happen.
The HDMI converter is small in comparison.

Re: Extron Rgb-hdmi 300A SNES
which one did you get ? the DVS units I have here with me are rather small. About the same width as the 300A, just a bit deeper and higher.
Re: Extron Rgb-hdmi 300A SNES
Sorry, but are you aware that with such a setup you will be processing your signal twice and get double the lag and artifacts? I mean now that they're on your hands by all means give the Extron combo a try, but do consider selling them and upgrading to an OSSC.
If you instead need a more compatible upscaler, then look for a Kramer VP-425. It takes 240p over Component (at least from a PS2) and does not deinterlace it. Here's a sample of 240p -> 1080p processing from the VP-425. I'd go as far as saying it rivals the OSSC Line5x output on Generic mode (there's just a hair of ringing).

Re: Extron Rgb-hdmi 300A SNES
i got the DVS-304 A.
Re: Extron Rgb-hdmi 300A SNES
I Just found the Extron DSC-301 HD. It might work.
It supports RGBS 15khz Right To HDMI.
Instead of having this combo of extron boxes I have right now (and the extra lag as was mentioned here.)
looks like itll fit under the tv too.

Re: Extron Rgb-hdmi 300A SNES
Well, Is there a way to turn off the deinterlacing on the DSC-301 HD? Also, can i hook a mini slg up to this for scanlines?
Re: Extron Rgb-hdmi 300A SNES
no, you can't disable the 480i processing. And adding scanlines to a digital source is complicated and rather expensive.
Again, an OSSC of course would solve all these issues for you

Re: Extron Rgb-hdmi 300A SNES
well, i see what you mean. It looks bad. the funny thing though, is that its only de-interlacing the top half of my snes video. the bottom half of the screen is perfect. it looks fine.
OSSC is looking better.

Re: Extron Rgb-hdmi 300A SNES
If you wanted to add scanlines, you'd need a HDMI to VGA converter (these are really cheap), then add a SLG unit of your choice and then reconvert back to HDMI using the Extron 300. I really doubt though that it would be worth it.
Re: Extron Rgb-hdmi 300A SNES
I am quite happy with my GBS-8200 and mini slg setup. its way better than this extron POS.
Only thing that was bugging me about it - no case. its just a pcb. if i could find a good case for it id be fine for a while.
and i dont have to have HDMI although its nice. I have Vga ports on my tvs.

Re: Extron Rgb-hdmi 300A SNES
do you have the custom FW on the GBS ? Without it also applies 480i deinterlacing to your 240p sources. I never got around the custom FW, but it looks quite good - especially when you consider the price point.
Re: Extron Rgb-hdmi 300A SNES
Well, it does a lot better job at it than the extron. way better.
I dont have the custom firmware yet. Ive been waiting for a way to flash the Gbs permanently with it and not need a Raspberry pi.
Im thinking about setting it up though now, as is.

Re: Extron Rgb-hdmi 300A SNES
Hey, that DVS-304A Vga converter I bought is alright after i set it up a bit. It looks a lot better than the Hdmi boxes, and it works with my Mini-SLG.
I hadnt tried it yet. i just hooked it up.

Re: Extron Rgb-hdmi 300A SNES
Sorry to reply to such an ancient thread but I've found that the RGB-HDMI 300A actually does a very good job with 240p sources provided you fiddle with the sampling etc manually rather than using the auto setting. I recorded this a while back with an Elgato HD60+ and don't see any artifacts etc. Correct me if I'm wrong of course.

It also handles 24khz stuff very nicely-

480p's very good too of course. Lag is low (0.9 frames according to this guy-
(http://www.apple2faq.com/knowledgebase/ ... hdmi-300a/
It upscales basically every resolution possible from my Windows 98/DOS PC also, from 320x200 up to 1600x1200 and does it very nicely. You can also correct the Dreamcast's aspect ratio with it.
It does a 480i Bob deinterlace which isn't exactly pretty but it works, it switches modes almost instantaneously, is very versatile in terms of input formats and manual adjustments and performance is rock solid.
I actually think this is a bit of an unsung hero as far as scalers go. I use it all the time these days after using a variety of more expensive scalers and find it certainly less finicky and stress free than those options even if its 15khz processing is not quite as immaculate as the OSSC's 240p or the XRGB Mini's 480i handling.

Re: Extron Rgb-hdmi 300A SNES
Just picked up a RGB-HDMI 300A myself, this thing is pretty awesome. I can get picture on my lcd panel but my el gato won't display anything from it, what did you change to get it working? It's connected to my Groovymame Extron RGB interface vga local output.Das Muel wrote:Sorry to reply to such an ancient thread but I've found that the RGB-HDMI 300A actually does a very good job with 240p sources provided you fiddle with the sampling etc manually rather than using the auto setting.
