I'd love an SC2 key -- PM me if you still have one! :)

A big difference is that Cave generally doesn't have sixty year long betas with trillions of people playing who are more than happy to post excessively about how the thing melted a $100+ piece of hardware.
I never heard about this issue during beta. Single-player wasn't beta-tested, either, and this seems to be a solely single-player issue. Either way, it's an issue that has only JUST cropped up, and they've acknowledged the problem, posted a quick fix for anyone suspecting the issue, and I'm sure is working on a patch right now. You're really, really taking this too far.

Edit: Read up on this problem even more. This is indeed only a problem with a specific part of the singleplayer campaign. And in fact, this is not an issue with the GAME, it is an issue with your graphics card. The vast majority of graphics cards and hardware setups are unaffected by this. If your card is affected by this, it's because there's a defect with the cooling and the card fails to shut down above its rated temperature, which it SHOULD do to prevent damage.

Bottom line, this issue wasn't known about but ignored during the months of beta testing. This issue does not fry thousands of graphics cards that Blizzard is morally obligated to replace. This issue EXPOSES an existing problem with very specific graphics card hardware setups. If this happens, it's because your hardware had a problem already - this didn't CAUSE any problem to occur.

Sorry for the random bump, but I've been watching some SC2 replays recently and I had to share this match:

So they're releasing Wings of Liberty free for everyone.

It's a bit wild how much the gaming scene has changed since even the mid 2000's. Through genre saturation and competition. Perhaps only Blizzard could have made a big profit off of charging for a box of a remake of games we already have. The standard is you get more than what you used to get, a living game with something to look forward to, for free (or "free"). As demonstrated by things like Path of Exile or Granblue Fantasy or HEX or Duelyst or that warcraft video game card game thingy.

Even at $0, Starcraft 2 is hard to justify installing. Those gigaboots, man : /

Not happy. StarCraft II was already telling me I couldn't change the home screen background because a promotional screen was active, have to wonder what sort of things they'll feel justified in pushing in a "free" product. Sadly there's no pirate alternative for Nova: Covert Ops.
