Is it safe to repeatedly adjust PVM geometry?

Post by d0s »

I have a PVM 20M2MDU that I use with a supergun, recently I've gotten tired of the geometry being off on many boards and have been adjusting it in the service menu to suit the game and keeping a list of what vertical and horizontal setting works with each game. Sometimes "extreme" geometry settings needed to get everything visible and correctly proportioned on some games cause some warping of the image in corners or edges and this is kind of worrying, I'm just wondering if changing this setting often can lead to any kind of damage?

I don't think changing the geometry will cause any damage unless you go to the extremes with some settings maybe, but at these values the image will definitely look completely wrong anyway. So anything that looks mostly OK should be fine from a precautionary standpoint.

Don't these monitors have a few saved settings stats? This way you can change the settings you want to at the push of one button.

Not really, unless you count the underscan setting.

Some people can tweak the 4:3 under and overscan, and the 16:9 under/over but that's not foolproof and not all monitors like it or can do it.

BVM's can set the H Center on a per-channel basis (can have 90ish channels saved), but that's it.

I can't imaging that simply changing the adjustments would wear anything out, however when you WRITE them to memory that may have a finite number of write cycles

might make sense to just write an "average" set of parameters to memory and just tweak them at runtime as needed
