They might be misaligned. I was using standard 1080p output profile which took the 59.83 input refresh and made it 59.94 with a 16:9 AR. When I made a custom output profile on the CII to match the 59.83 refresh, I had to switch the AR to 4:3 as with 16:9 the picture was did not display properly like when I was using standard 1080p profile. Might be why? Or I was just holding my cellphone at an odd angel when taking the picture. :o

Ahah may be :P I thought the angles of the text box looked weird but looking again they are consistently so (both upper and lower), which means they're fine. Also I can't think of a reason why an OSSC+CII combo would result in misaligned scanlines after all.

On another note - I don't understand how you can display 1080p with a 4:3 screen shape. I really don't think the CII changes the standard pixel aspect ratio so setting a 1080p output maybe just overrides the screen setting? Sorry, my CII is stored away and I'm also off-topic..

I had it on SS&AR to 16:9 with the CII's standard 1080p59.94, which looked fine.
Just needed to switch the SS&AR 4:3 when I made a custom 1080p59.83 profile or the picture was wrong.
Will double check next time I have it powered on though.

I don't think that there's any 240p source with a straight 59.94Hz output.
Yes, PSX may output 480i at 59.94Hz, but with 263-line 240p output (using same line period) refresh rate becomes (262.5/263)*59.94Hz = 59.8260...Hz. That discrepancy is also the reason why completely seamless 240<->480i transition is not possible for most digital displays.

Thanks for the new firmware, marqs! I look forward to checking out the latency tester.

I'm ready to see all the before and after comparisons with the reverse LPF, particularly on stuff like fighting game ports on PS2/Xbox that have softening filters and arcade boards that have a slightly soft video output.

Is this true... can anyone comment on the results?
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

I've built a small housing for the LED. I want a clean looking connection so I'm going to use a mono audio cable to hookup the OSSC to the photodiode.

Image

I will drill a hole into the top casing of the OSSC and panel mount a connector like this:

Image
https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/ ... ND/1956558
I need to confirm the OSSC plexiglass case thickness. As the threads need to be long enough on this jack to work.

*****************
Edit: The plexiglass is 2.5mm thick.
I will be personally using this jack: https://www.ebay.com/itm/536B/281501656663
For this particular jack the max thickness on the panel can only be 1.7mm but I will just file/trim down the legs.
*****************

I'll simply wire the jack to required points on the OSSC button.

Here is a PCB that would hold the other female 1/8 jack and the LED.
https://oshpark.com/shared_projects/9Q1COXCo

The PCB will mount to this 3D printed part using 3mm bolds/screws:
https://www.shapeways.com/product/FVA53 ... cy-housing

I do plan to put some black felt on the bottom of the this box to make sure this does not scratch anything.

Would it be technically be possible to downsample 480i/576i to 240p/288p and then Line 3-5 that signal? Does the OSSC FPGA have enough power for that or does that require a framebuffer?

Same with 960i/1080i and line double?

There are a couple "magic" input samplerates which would allow turning 480i (or 480p) into 240p without framebuffer or extra hardware. However, the implementation would be very specific and asks for a dedicated firmware (downconversion is listed on wiki's potential "alternative firmwares" section).

Would such a dedicated firmware still include basic features, such as output and post processing, or will it provide the very specific one it's been designed for (downconversion only, in this case) and nothing else?

How about an option to turn off the stupid LED. Why does every new piece of electronics think that a bright ass led is a useful feature for any reason. Is the switch on? Then it's on... It's fine if you wanna add it, but make an option to turn it off.

PS. Behar Bros, I really hope you're reading this too cuz you're LEDs are stupid bright and it's idiotic to put them on there in the first place.

I like the LED as they easily show if the OSSC loses sync. Swap the 330 ohm resistors with something higher and that will dim the LED's

Also you are coming off hateful. No need to be obnoxious.

I'm only thinking PS2 here both NTSC and PAL and maybe PAL Gamecube. PS2 specifically is the 480i/576i console.

3do is a big one. That way, we can stop cutting the cases and fiddling with a switch after each game boots.

I've been toying with the idea trying to make this switch function automatic. Need to do some more testing though.

You should see this guy's posts in the Gscartsw thread. Comes out of nowhere attacking the manufacturer of said device, then starts attacking another gentleman whose device had some incompatibility with the Gscartsw. Now he shows up in this thread attacking some other people.

The GARO's LED is so absurdly bright that it has permanently discoloured the part of the plexiglass cover that it shines on.

Is there any expectation that the PSX would be compatible with Line5x 256x240 optimized mode? My understanding is that the PSX in that mode operates on the same dot clock as the NES and SNES, but I'm not clear on whether there are other differences that complicate the matter. I can get 5x Generic 4:3 on my LG C7 in any of the 1920x1080, 1980x1200, or 1600x1200 modes. But switching to 256x240 optimized mode causes a number of columns to be darkened or skipped. I've experimented with the horizontal sample rate, sampling phase, and video LPF to no avail.

I'm not complaining about generic 4:3 - it looks terrific. But I'm curious to see what an exact dot clock match would look like if it's possible. I'm working with one of the late model, slimline PSOnes if that matters.

I wound up making a few different profiles for ps1 some 256 opt. some 320 opt. I've only tested a small handful of games so far but all seem to work in one profile or another. I had to do lots of messing around with those three settings you listed, changing one till its close then changing another, going back and forth till it dialed in. I am sure once I learn more about what each setting does I'll wonder why I spent hours going the wrong direction haha. Once dialed in it looks razor sharp.

Not sure how much a difference it makes but I am doing this on a ps2 so things might be slightly different then an actual ps1.

Also something to try, I have an LG tv as well but mine is a few years old and I had a lot of trouble getting the optimized modes to work at all until I set TX Mode to DVI. This did cut out the audio so I ran the audio cables into my reciever instead of through the OSSC.

Thanks. I have a PS2 as well. But I just got my OSSC and started with the PS1 thinking it would be more straightforward. If you can share your PS2 timing/sampling settings for 256x240, I'd appreciate it.

Is it fair to say that if I'm at least getting a picture, that it should really only be the sampling and maybe filtering settings that need adjustment?

That's been my experience, just those 3 main settings so far.
Here's the 3 profiles I use for PS1 games, so far every game I've tested (not many admittedly) have worked with one of them. Of course you will need to adjust for your TV but hopefully it will get you in the right direction. Also the first one only works with Symphony of the Night so far, and only for gameplay. The menus use a different timing it seems and get a bit funky. The actual game though is incredible looking.

Then add the feature, test it, and make a PR (pull request).
