I'd recommend getting one of Tim's Scart to Jamma adapters and feed a Euro Scart signal from either gaming console and you're good to go on the ol' New Astro City cand cab. The 1st-party Microsoft Advance Scart cable works just fine with the Xbox 360 console.

Here's an official Microsoft Scart cable setup: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Official-Ge ... XQQQhReS8j

Or you could use an VGA Box for use with the Dreamcast and a VGA cable with the XBox 360 consoles and use an Utlracade UVc (Universal Video Convertor) that's fed into the New Astro Cit's jamma edge connector setup. You'd just have to set the maximum resolution to 640 x 480 on the Xbox 360 and you're all set. Easy as pie.

Here's an auction for an Sega VGA Box: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sega-Dreamcast- ... SwkzhZwssI

Another auction for an Microsoft 1st-party VGA cable: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Official-Micros ... SwZcNTmgMH

Here's an auction for an Ultracade UVc: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ULTRACADE-UVC-U ... Sw0IJZw9jr

Once you get ahold of an UVc, then it'd be a matter of wiring up a 56-pin Jamma fingerboard to the UVc to get it to work properly to power up both the +12v and the +5v lines on the UVc itself. Then you would wire up the R, G, B, H sync and V sync lines from the UVc to the Jamma fingerboard and you're in business.

Thanks. Looks like the UVC should be a better choice for this one, to get better results with the image. The Scart2jamma seems to be more versatile though, but i think that the Pi2jamma should be better than the Scart2jamma for an arcade. I was also reading about the Extron Super Emotia 2 should work. What do you think?.

Yes, if you do get the Extron Super Emotia 2, it'll convertor the incoming VGA signal of 640 x 480 from the Xbox 360 and output in 240p format. You would then need a BNC cable that's been hooked up to a 56-pin jamma edge board and you're good to go.

Here's an auction listing for a Extron Super Emotia 2: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Extron-Super-Em ... SwH2hZtYNE

Here's a listing for a jamma fingerboard on Focus Attack site: https://www.focusattack.com/pb-jamma-pr ... ter-board/

RGB BNC cable listed on the Monoprice site: https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=91

No misinformation please!

The Super Emotia 2 will only output in 480i - which both your DC and 360 can already do on their own. Only the earlier Emotia models will output in 240p.

If you're good with 480i then a simply Scart to Jamma converter will do the job. This is the cheapest and easiest solution of course.

The best thing you could do on your Astro though is to aim at 384p (24khz) instead. The UVC for example can take your 480p output and convert it into 384p instead. There are likely a few other machines that could do the same.

That's what i want. I just read your page and now i know my possibilities. Just bought the UVC on Ebay, with a $30 discount coupon, cost me $119.

Thanks for everything guys.

solid price. These are rare.

You have to check with some other Astro users wether you have to set the monitor to 24khz manually of if it's auto-sync. I'm not a cab user myself, so I don't know.

Ultracade UVC and New Astro. Can't sync on 24khz. Help

Post by sabravof »

Hi again. My UVC finnaly arrived a couple of weeks ago, but i didn't have the chance to test it on my NAC because didn't have the propper cables. Today i bought a jamma fingerboard and made the connector following the Empathic guide, but i have some issues with the 24khz sync. In 15khz there was no problem at all, but on 24 khz there's no way to make it work. I need some help on this guy. Any comment is welcome.
Here is the album with the photos that i took

Thanks in advice.

Its a MS9. I changed the plug from this position in 15 khz https://photos.app.goo.gl/3NZ8XIufdTNNe9am1 to this 24khz https://photos.app.goo.gl/OCOGiLaTzVGuPtgL2 but the results are the same. Also i moved the Switch Nº 3 on the UVC and did all the combinations with DW 6-7-8 with no luck.
How could i test if the problem is the UVC or my New astro?

Can you describe your issue with 24kHz? No stable image? If so, make sure you've set the DIP on the UVC for 24kHz output, then adjust the H.H. pot for 24kHz on your NANAO chassis controls:

Image

The above row of pots aren't available on the remote of the chassis, but on the chassis itself.

Yes, that picture seem to show that the dips are correctly set, but the chassis pot needs a tweak. My guess is the H.H. pot, but if that doesn't do the trick, try the SPC24 one as well. H.H. means Horizontal Hold, I think. Not sure what SPC stands for.

Edit: In my EGRET IIs, these pots are situated on the edge of the chassis and I can reach them from the front of the cabinet, just below the bottom of the CRT.

Pretty sure that dip only makes the image slightly sharper for certain games in 24hz. Doesn't do much for 15hz.

Cool! Now, remember that you need to use an amplifier to get the sound working from your consoles to JAMMA. I would suggest getting a small 2.1 system and putting the sub woofer inside the cabinet as an amplifier. Like this: http://www.emphatic.se/?p=202

SPC is side pin cushion.

Shouldn't have to touch the onboard pots for H.h
They really should have silicon on them locking them.

The dip I was talking about us on the Astros daughter board sorry.
