Ultimarc Minigrip Buttons - leaf or microswitch?

Post by Swevicus »

Dear Shmups Forum,

In my never-ending quest to build an arcade-quality Atari joystick controller (on a budget), I stumbled upon a joystick called the "Ultimarc MiniGrip", an 8-way digital joystick with a trigger and top-fire button. For anyone who has or has used this joystick, can you please confirm or disconfirm whether this joystick uses microswitches on the buttons or leaf switches/contacts (I found an image of the joystick opened up, which looks like they might be using modified microswitches used in Sanwa and Seimitsu buttons, but I can't be sure)? See the image below if you don't know what I mean (I'd also like to know what's it like as a controller - throw, engage, stiffness, quality, performance, etc.).

Yours sincerely,
Swevicus.

Looks like a knockoff Sanwa JLW with a knock off Happ top. Soft buttons for the triggers, lever micro switches down the bottom.

You'd make a nicer stick with a JLF, hollow shaft and modded top.

Unfortunate the JLF shaft is thinner than the JLW but you could pack the top out to fit

Cherry mx blues have nice haptic feedback, cherry also do the mx range for laptops, I forget the model but the button is half the size. Still mechanical.

**EDIT**
I was thinking of the CHERRY ML series.
Haven't used any yet but very keen to see what they are like and maybe mod some controllers to have mechanical switches.

So it's not good, then... OK, I'll break out the Seimitsu LS-56-01 and just use that and a PS-15 button, then.

You can make a nice strong handle with as many buttons as you want out of polymorph mouldable plastic pellets.
