Hello, everyone. The other day I managed to score a 21 inch European Philips CRT tv for free on Craigslist. This thing has RGB scart so I’m pretty excited. I don’t know what sort of step-up converter to use for this thing.
The back of the TV says that it draws 53 watts. I got a cheap step-ip converter rated for 100watts off of Amazon and it died the moment I turned the TV on. Do I need more wattage? I know that I have to go from 110v to 220v
If anyone here has any experience or knowledge on this topic and can answer my questions I would appreciate it.

Get a more expensive one rated for higher wattage. The cheap ones are supposed to be used for small electric devices you bring with you on travels, such as electric razors and toothbrushes.

Re: Using a European CRT TV in the USA voltage questions
I got a new on that is rated for 300w and the TV started right up. It gives a great picture from my NTSC/U PSOne and my NTSC/J Saturn. It is interesting some of the ways in which this set differs from American ones. The ‘Tint’ control switches between warm and cool; there is no way to adjust the green/red balance. The TV accepts and displays NTSC composite over SCART, but it is a bit green heavy. There are two SCART ports in the back and nothing else except antenna input bnc. One SCART does RGB and composite and the other does YC and composite. Supposedly they both output composite, but I have no idea how that works.
Geometry is very nice , but I would like to tilt the image maybe 2 pixels. I think I have to get in to the service menu for tilt correction. I don’t have a remote, so hopefully a universal will suffice.
The model is 21pt4475/01
RGB really looks fantastic. It’s way superior on this set to my kv24fs100 with an RGB2YpBpR converter. I can post pics, but I think there is a better thread to do that.
Thank you for the help.

Glad it all worked out!
Note that for PAL signals, the tint control does nothing (or should not be available) as this is an NTSC thing. If you use RGB for your consoles (which I expect is what you got the tv for anyway), the tint control doesn't matter anyway.
That model has a pretty decent tube in it. Lots of people favor the Sony's because of their aperture grille technology, but I personally really like the look of those Philips tubes.

Any RC5-compatible remote will work (for TVs made by Philips including Magnavox/Radiola/Schneider re-branded sets from the mid-80s to today), but you might want to find a relatively recent one. The service menu sequence is more likely to be the following sequence (or a variant) : 0 6 2 5 9 6 menuSCARTicus wrote:Geometry is very nice , but I would like to tilt the image maybe 2 pixels.
