Solved* PC-E Duo RGB sync issue

Post by korpse413 »

Hello, I am having issues with sync on upper left corner of display.

Image

Display: BVMD20F1U
Amp: Voultar board latest rev
Cable: 8 Pin Din to SCART wired passthrough, (I had a spare laying around originally wired for SMS that I no longer used) - zero components in scart head wired like this (ignore the 75ohm resistor between 8 and 16, I did not add this since passthrough):

^Perhaps this is my issue? Source material is so scarce, I found it from mmmonkey.

Could this be a grounding issue on the scart cable? Pin 21 aka the outer housing is not grounded, not sure how to... its a cheap ass cable that i'm working with here. Plus the Din male end outer circle housing is not grounded either... Is this my issue?

Can confirm no solder bridges on C6260 between pins 44 47 49 51, plus wire length is kept super short.. Board is getting fed proper 5v and ground. 8 pin din is wired B,G,R with sync leg snipped like Voultar suggests.

I had a similar issue on my JVC Broadcast monitor, (1710cg) but not quite as bad as yours. I ran it through an extron RGB interface and that mostly fixed it.

For PC Engine to sync right on a BVM D you have to turn on VCR mode. On some SONY models the option is called something else though.

Yup, that's "VCR Mode", found the the maintenance menu. It has to do with the horizontal sync slices. There's more info in my A-Series video (around 3min): https://youtu.be/SkslzaHJXzE

I have the same issue on my Ikegami PVM. I haven't been able to solve it yet.

You guys are awesome. Thank you so much! Also, outstanding troubleshooting help from Voultar. The guy cares. Cannot stress that enough

Here is a quick little unlisted video I made showing the fix, check it out - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQPjgXwQfTA

The irony is I remember watching the vcr modes come up in the past, like Bob's video on the SMS, but I always just kept it in the back of my mind. Sure enough it affects D series F1U's not just A.

Also, glad it is not my crappy modwork ;P
