I haven't seen the 1966 version, but I have watched the original 1939 and liked it quite a bit. Very fun movie. David Carradine's father, John Carradine, is in it.

Blade Runner 2049

Lots of feels. Won't say much as to not spoil. Will probably go see it on the big mofo screen (where I originally had tickets before that slot was cancelled) before it's done. Fucking nailed the soundtrack, and the theater I was in were not pussies about it. The screen vibrated a few times.

Was Ryan Gosling a plank of dead wood, or has he managed to muster a second expression?

Can't really go into it, but he was fine. Usually is... not that I see a ton of stuff with him in it. He has his schtick. He broods, handsomely. Not taking best actor any time soon, but there's far worse out there. I will say though, that like with the first, the standout performance is with the ambiance (both visual & audio).

That made me look but on mild, morbid curiosity level, at best.

For me, the most interesting thing about this film, is the fact that rather than watch it, regret watching and then bitch and moan about what I already knew, I will probably not watch it at all.
Getting way past time we stopped abusing ourselves with this shit.

Dont give them anymore money, GaijinPunch, cause the fuckers will make a third

Ridley Scott is involved... that dude is trying to make this and Alien into the new Marvel (and he's said basically as much). Dunno... there's tons to explore here for sure, but I'd rather it be done in books. Conversely, if most big budget blockbusters were of this caliber, we'd be bitching a lot less.

EDIT: I specifically watched Alien Covenant & GitS on a plane as to not give them any money. After watching them, that felt about right.

Yeah, I saw your other post. I gave it about as much thought as it (eg, the movie) deserved, which isn't much. GitS wasn't entirely crap, but they picked a shit director considering what it had to live up to. For me the biggest let down (other than the full on 'Merica glaze that it's covered in) was Michael Pitt's performance. He's arguably the most talented in the cast and it goes to show even a talented actor can make you yawn if they're not directed properly. Having said that, the whimpering ending of the original matched it's bleak atmosphere so perfectly, I guess an over the top ending was all we could hope for in the double-origin story US interpretation.

Digging Up the Marrow (2014) - Adam Green

Had fun with this one. Nice little low budget monster film, completely and expertly carried by Ray Wise.
Of course it liberally "borrows" from Clive Barker but its a far more engaging film than his Nightbreed (1990).

He's dope. Maybe even aged like a fine wine... he was great in Fargo Season 3... and of course his very small part in TP The Return.

Was it as bad as trying to remake a Frank Capra movie with Adam Sandler?

It was the strangest thing watching Twin Peaks (everything, tv+movies both) for the first time recently, and only twigging where I knew him from like halfway through. Frickin Robocop!

"EAAAAGHHH!"
"Helllp... helllp meee..."
"DON'T-TOUCH-ME-MAAAAAAAN!"

From then on it was like a mini Robo-reunion with Miguel Ferrer (Bob Morton/Albert) and Dan O'Herlihy (The Old Man/Andrew Packard), haha.

The Blob (1958)
A movie made for drive-ins to scare the crap out of your gal.
How's the 1988 remake, more gorish I bet?

Blob '88 is an excellent little movie, highly recommended - a love letter to the 1950s creature feature format. And yeah, it brings on the balls-out practical effects gore.

The Blob (1988)
Ah, much more interesting, with some nice SFX and gore. Nice twist at the end, too.
They even made the scene where everybody escapes from the movie theather nicely, too.
The Blob's origin as a
Spoiler
WMD experiment by the military
was an interesting, if tired by todays' standards, twist.

The Formula (1980) - John G. Avildsen

Catching up on George C. Scott films as I am a fan. Passable, although the older gentleman getting the girl trope dos not hold up well.

Recommended for three reasons;
1. Marlon Brando (his performance is fabulous. Obviously)
2. Marlon Brando's dental prosthesis
3. Marlon Brando being an obvious cunt on set

Noctural Animals

A bit disappointed as I was waiting for something different, the whole idea is a bit silly, I think a thriller plot linking to the main characters's reality/history other than just figuratively would have made it a great film. It's well made but an oddity imho, dunno what's in Tom Ford's head, the 70's experimentations are best left in the past.

Night of the Living Dead (1990 remake)
I think it stands on it's own, to be honest. The changed ending was a good idea, and it closes things up nicely. I'm a huge fan of Tom Savini, though, so I might be biased. :D

I just saw Blade Runner 2049. It was... okay, I guess. But it definitely doesn't hold a candle to Mad Max: Fury Road or Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation.

Fine dark comedy, lovely gothic scenery. Raul Julia is just great.

Having Brando direct a film is, perhaps, not a wise decision. He is primarily going to try to entertain himself.
Slow, with odd editing. If the rumoured five hour original length is true, it might have had better pacing as a televised serial.
Its years since I last saw it but it came to mind while watching Unforgiven (1992)

Pina Pellicer was convincing, for obvious reasons.
Spoiler
The editing decision to have her survive and avoid Maldens dying shot, spoils the ending.
Overall, I'd say its one for western buffs and Brando fans. It wouldn't be a personal favourite.

Addams Family Values is even better!
Two working class dudes, one black one white, just baked a tray of ten cookies together.

An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.

Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

The movie was beyond me. None the less it has stuck with me in thought more than anything else I've seen through the summer.
