Agreed. :)

Some proper testing would be very helpful.

I will offer a free converter to someone who would be willing to test and review and put it on youtube. Someone who already has a decent sized following in the retro gaming scene.

This would be right up MLiG's alley if they weren't already swamped with other episodes in the works.

It's not really a youtube video kind of test? You're just comparing RGB values coming from an RGB signal directly vs a converted to YPbPr signal. i.e. it's two graphs superimposed.

And as I said, there's no single variable way to test them right now, at least that I'm aware of.

Agreed. Fusion you're trying to sell your product the wrong way. Give it to someone like voultar to test before and after values to make sure they are accurate and without noise, and his blessing will be all you need to sell a bunch on these forums.

Again, there's no reliable way to test in a single variable setup afaik.

Aren't there some test that can be done to compare RGB colors values versus the component colors values coming out of the converter?

Like : pick a system, mesure color values straight from the RGB SCART cable, and then mesure color values coming from the same console, same RGB SCART cable but this time through each component converter?

Then compare the values (the deltas between pure RGB and each converter for a bunch of colors).

Ok guys I am revisiting shipping off a few of these units for review/exposure, also maybe a working relationship for future products I come out with (I already have some unreleased products)

I have already attempted contacting retrorgb and mlig. Any other suggestions?

Send one to Voultar, who volunteered above to test it.

Just for reference, the Shinybow gladly accepts PS2 sync on green and outputs 480p. Very nice.

I tested the latest version of Fusion's "Retrotek SCBV1P3" SCART to component and it seems great. I put it through a bunch of subjective tests (played on plasma, BVM, etc), as well as took some screenshots. I sent it along to other people for further tests, but so far, it's looking like a good option. If nothing else, it's MUCH better then those CSY clones (I hate those things) and cheaper then a real CSY.

EDIT: Through further testing, it seems there are some scenarios where there are color issues. I'll keep testing.

Thanks Retrorgb. always nice to have reviews for these boxes. Looking forward to your detailed tests results.

Keep the reviews coming, guys!

I'll update again when I've finished more tests.
Did Fusion's box accept the PS2 480p sync on green over SCART and output component 480p video?

I didn't try that, I only tested RGBs over 240p, 480i and 480p. I believe he said it wouldn't work though.

Does not accept sync on green unless the PS2 outputs both sync on green and composite video simultaneously (I am not sure about this). If so, it will use the composite video for sync and ignore the sync pulse on the green signal.

As for 480p RGB input, the SCART to Component video will work with a part tweak, however this converter will cover all resolutions (240p to 1080i)

What IC is the Shinybow using, I wonder, that it works with both sync-on-green and composite video sync and csync? Could this IC be used in homebrew products?

In theory you can just mix the green signal (buffered version) and composite video signal and feed it into a sync splitter and it will work. No special IC needed.

So I'm probably going to have to pickup one of these. Had anybody owned both the Fusion and the Shinybow? Thoughts on which is better?

I'm leaning towards Shinybow simply because it has a (seemingly) more durable metal case which I can more easily mount without worry (3d printing still has a ways to go IMO).

Based on the feedback here and from other sites, I went ahead and purchased the Shinybow. I will hook it up to a component splitter. One cable hooks directly to the CRT. The other hooks to the OSSC/VP50/LCD.
