I live with my gf and she doesn't care at all if I play games, which is pretty nice. In fact, she sorta thinks it's cute or something (she also totally doesn't care if I buy a bunch of games every now and then). She doesn't care about most of the games, but for some reason recently she likes to watch me play Ibara. She says she thinks the explosions and animation are beautiful, though she can only watch for a few minutes before she feels dizzy and has to go in the other room.

Well, at least she didn't smash, sell, chunk, or submerge any of your games or systems.

Here's a horror story:

Couple of years ago my "babymama" went "early 'Who" on my modded PS2 and my electric guitar after a disastrous argument the night before. Smashed them all to fuck. Whether or not I had it coming based on what all I said to her is basis for another argument...but, that's not necessary.

*laughing* I remember sending the wreckage back to Matt and him saying something like....mmmm, yea-NO!

On the up, though. I got a new Import PS2. My guitar has been restored. Cost: $500 total.

I don't keep anything at the apt. as it would lie in peril, though things have calmed down considerably. Actually I just recently installed an Amiga RGB and my Dreamcast - tucked in the corner discretely w/ Gunbird 2, Border Down, and Bangai-oh...Gotta cover all of the angles w/o too many bells/whistles...shhh!

Off the top of my head I can't think of ANYTHING that would justify such violent behavior. Certainly you saying something annoying doesn't justify that behavior.

Whoa, are you still with her? Are you sure that's a good idea?? I would think you'd be better off not living with someone so violent.

I haven't moved in with my girlfriend yet...... but my mum and dad have these arguments alot. They're both gamers and they're always interrupting each other at the worst possible moments.

My girlfriend doesn't live with me but man does she give me crap about videogames. Funny thing is, she's addicted to fashion and spends absurd amounts of money on louis voutton? bags or a pair of sunglasses that she'll never wear long but cost a fuckload. Then she complains about the money I spend on import stuff, old videogames, and a couple modern releases? I swear the woman is on thin ice.

I had one of those before; she was a bastard. Give that one the boot. Fucking hipocrite.

High maintenance women are a no-no, no matter how hot she looks or how rampant she is in bed. Suggest you drop that one pronto, as she will only make you miserable otherwise.

The perfect lady is one who is content with what she has and can get, makes you happy, and has no pressing need for fashion statements (save for the odd one or two every now and again). However, perfection is an illusion, and the likelyhood of a lady of that sort ever appearing is one-in-a-billion.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau and your "one-in-a-billion" estimate, there are only six of these ladies available in the world. I have one, so that leaves only five left. Good luck, my friend.

That's the general concensus believe me...My rationalization is categorized. Number one; my daughter needs a father around.
Two; I don't know. Maybe I can make her realize that she's (the mom) not the only person in the universe...I don't know.
Another thing...less time on games (and these boards :( ) means more time doing audio and music...something I really need to push w/ both hands and both feet  .
I could go on and on and on...but, guess what? I gotta get home.

My wife was constantly selling clothes that she had only worn once. No shit, I saw her go sell a blouse that costed somewhere in the $800 range, and she had only worn once.

This thread is making me appreciate my singleness, i'd add. Well, i fool around and try to convince...partners that games are cool, but i don't really have to deal with relationship problems regarding this stuff, finally.

Agreed. I've had girlfriends in the past who got quite heated in their arguments, and I've let them know quick smart that any sort of violence will not be tolerated in relationships for me. If anyone shows even the slightest hint of violence, I walk. No questions asked, no tears, no tantrums. I just leave and don't come back. It happened once with a rather psycho one who threw scissors at my head, which I blocked with my hand (and ended up with a pretty bad cut). I just grabbed my stuff and left. Plenty of teary messages on my voicemail after that, but I don't go back to that shit. She had one chance, and she lost it through her own actions and choices.

My missus was in a rather violent relationship before me, and she had the brains to walk. The two of us both despise that crap, which I think is great. It makes me so happy to end up with a person who (a) isn't violent or even the tiniest bit aggressive, and (b) who dones't put up with that shit from other people. If people can't solve their problems with a non-emotional and non-violent discussion, they have some serious issues and don't deserve your time or partnership. End of story.

My wife takes one look at an $800 dress and says "Who the fuck would pay that?". Did I mention I love this woman? :)

My current relationship is pretty... volatile :D The stuff above is a valid opinion, but there are many reasons people use violence and some of them aren't that easy to sort out, understand, or indeed, walk away from. My GF definately has 'issues', but I'm not just gonna walk away and leave her to deal alone. Maybe I'll regret it in years to come  Her saving grace is that she's an avid gamer alson, so none of our consoles are at risk.

I don't live with my girlfriend, though we are thinking about living together next year. We've been together for nearly 3 years now

She doesn't like gaming. We don't spend much time together, so when we are together, I usually will not play any games. She tried to play some games with me, but she lacks the coordination to play even the more simple action games, and she doesn't have any patience to learn it.

Athoulgh last week I introduced her to Virtua Tennis (She actually saw me playing, and wanted to try it out), and she enjoyed it. As she also enjoyed Arkanoid Returns (And could even play it moderately well), but I feel she never really wants to play them. She just does that to make me feel happy.

She just dont get even close to shmups. She knows I like those games, and that's all. She has no interest in learning playing those games (Though I still have hope to change that, heh heh heh :D).

But one of the sweetest things she did was search for a original copy of Zanac X Zanac to give me as a birthday gift. She heard me talking with someone about how I wanted it so badly, and she went to search like crazy in a lot of stores here for this game . Close to my birthday, she came to me and said "That Zanac X Zanac game you want... it's kinda hard to find it, isn't ?" (Poor girl :), ).

She complains a little bit when I spend too much on gaming, but we never really had a serious argue about that.

We only had 2 "nearly serious" argues because gaming. The first was when I got Sonic Jam for the Saturn, and after so many years, I was playing the first Sonic game again (Which I still think it's a fabulous game). She was talking to me, and I was talking to her..I actually was paying attention to her all the time, but she still got pissed that I was chatting with her while playing a game.

I remember that I paused the game (I was in world 3 if I remember correctly), and I turned off the TV... I stayed the rest of the day with her, and when she left, I got back to the game :)

And the other argue was last week, when we are discussing about going to live together....

Usually once per month there's a Pro Evolution Soccer championship with friends of mine hosted at my house. We usually buy lots of pizza and drinks and just keep on playing from 22:00 up to 6:00 am. She said that when we are living under the same roof, this won't happen anymore. I, of course objected that :D Athoulgh their arguments make a lot more of sense than mine :) (This meeting is always at my house because I have the bigger house, so we can yell and not annoy anyone. We are probably going to move to a much smaller house, so the yelling would surely annoy her when she wanted to sleep)...

I do love her a lot anyway :)

Heh... i find it difficult to play games like Ninja Gaiden with my girlfriend around because she gets mad at me about liking a game with hot chicks in it.
Yeah, really. I can't play Ibara with her around. It's just stupid animated shit too. I don't get it.

Damn. My wife does that shit too. "Do you like looking at her? Do they turn you on?" (in reference to Ibara). Geez, it's just a fucking game. I think she does that shit just to annoy me or she just has a weird sense of humor. Probably both. Crazy women.

Well, sometimes guys talk about animated women that way, and you can't blame them for wanting to be your ideal woman. It is silly though.

I don't have a mouthy wife, obviously, but my boss has got to be the most annoying person EVER when you're trying to play a game. She's my nephews mom, so I know her, but still. I'll walk in. I don't say hi, I just smile. I walk to the token machine because I have about 20 minutes to kill before work starts and put my money in. She runs over to the counter and proceeds to start talking to me. I ignore her and just kind of go yeah, uh-huh, okay, and make it so obvious that I just want to go play my game. Unfortunately Strikers is right next to the counter, so she starts talking about her life and asking me to look at things and asking me all these questions about work when I'm trying to play. Finally I just get frustrated and give up. She does it every time, so I don't even attempt to play it anymore when she's working. I was playing Beatmania once and she came over to me to ask me if I knew where some redemption items were. She didn't even want to put them in the display case, she "just wanted to know". She could at least wait until I'm clocked in. It's not like it was something urgent.

Wow, this thread is still active?

It feels weird reading all y'all's comments, because I have absolutely NO idea where your wives/girlfriends are coming from with what they're doing  I guess that's what comes from being a tomboy ;)

Funny thing is I enjoy playing games, but playing makes me feel guilty all the time that I haven't done any artwork in forever :( Stupid creative projects! My free time is more like a second job :x

She actually destroyed my copy of GitS: Man Machine Interface #6 (FIRST PRINTING i say, FIRST PRINTING). I found it under the couch in the bedroom all mangled up. Argh! But i just calmly asked her how she would like it if i went and burnt her 'I love NERDS' t-shirt and she understood. I mean that's just asking for people to yell out 'Hey, IM A NERD HUHUHUHUH!'. But you know - whatever.

With me its my Mom, she comes in in the middle of a shmup or while I am playing Pop'n music in the middle of a song. Shmups and Pop'n require the same level of zen-like concentration.....and my temper flares EVERY time....though I have learned to curtail it at bit
