Best settings Xbox360 Cave games on Dell UltraSharp U2414H?

Post by TastySoil »

Hey guys, just recently hooked my Xbox360 up to a Dell UltraSharp U2414H monitor (vertical) and currently have both the Xbox360 & Monitor set to 480p mode. Is this the preferred way to set it up to get the best visuals from the vertical Cave (and Raiden) games? Thanks for the tips!

It probably doesn't make a big difference. When you set the 360 to 480p you get a 1:1 rendering of the hi-res Cave games (and a 2:1 rendering of the low-res ones), but the monitor has got to do a lot of scaling work. 720p on the console isn't ideal for the hi-res Cave titles (because of the 1.5:1 scaling factor), so you're losing quality on the 360's end. 720p for low-res titles like Death Smiles (well, that's hori anyway), ESPGaluda2 or RFA where you a 3:1 rendition of the original resolution, gives you a boost in sharpness. 1080p might be an option for the hi-res titles.

If you're using scanlines on RFA note that the filter you chose has to match the integer scaling factor, otherwise the scanline alignment will be off.

I've got this monitor too, it doesn't scale a 16:9 image correctly (1080p stretches to 1920x1200) so yeah, I think 480p is gonna be your best option. Or maybe 1680x1050. I can't remember if the 360 supports 1920x1200 but I don't think it does.

The 2414 is 1080p. Got two of those right in front of me.

Thanks for the tips & info guys, much appreciated!

Can you elaborate on this? Are there scanline/filter settings you'd recommend? Been a long time since i've looked at those settings in detail.

It's been a long time. I just remember that RFA has various scanline filters and it's not easily obvious what's the difference between them. You basically have different scanline filters for 2x/3x/4x and 5x (iirc) as well as soft/hard variations of them. The number you chose has to match the integer scaling factor you're using during gameplay. TATE in 720p is 3x.
