GC VIDEO EXPERTS: WEIRD ISSUE WITH HDMI MODDED GAMECUBE

Post by Spidex761 »

Hey everyone I could not find any information regarding an issue I am having with my HDMI modded GC. My search led me to here as it seems some awesome things are happening with the gcvideo project.

I have 2 HDMI modded gamecubes ntsc. One works great, but the other is doing something really bizarre. It does not allow me to play in 480p progressive scan. My Tv recognizes the gamecube when it turns on, which has linedoubler on (also is fine with linedoubler off). I hold B for a progressive scan game, and it seems to hang for a couple seconds and then switches to a 576p PAL signal (according to the on screen menu), which makes no sense. I can play in 480i just fine, just cannot do 480p. I tried my other gamecube with the same tv, game, and hdmi cable and it can play in 480p. All Games are ntsc usa.

I took a look at the pinout for the digital port but do not know which pin would be progressive scan if there is one. Maybe a wiring issue? Maybe a bridge on the pins? Has anyone else encountered this weird issue? I know Unseen is the creator of the firmware, and citrus3000psi is making some awesome designs. Any help from anyone would be awesome thanks!

What mod are you using? PlutoII?

Also in one of the sub settings is Allow 480p turned on?

Pin1 on the digital out is the cable detect and needs to be held high to trigger 480p mode. You can let PlutoIIx board handle this (using the menu option) or permanently wire 3.3v to the that pin.

Go here https://github.com/ikorb/gcvideo/tree/m ... cvideo_dvi
And scroll down to the "Gamecube digital port"

Thanks citrus3000psi I will check that out! Allow 480p is turned on. As far as I know all the wiring is correct, but I will double check to see if its a cold connection or not making proper contact. Is it weird that the gamecube would boot in 576p mode on a ntsc game if pin 1 isnt properly connected? I thought it would just not get a signal unless 576p does not require pin 1. Any thoughts on that? Thanks.

One thing I can think of is the game thinking the previous mode was PAL-M, and this is a launch title (later SDK revisions will crash on PAL-M 480p).

PAL-M sets the same flag as PAL 50 Hz, so GCVideo wrongly labels it as 576i/p.
