Component Splitter Recommendation (PS2, PSP, GC, Wii)

Post by AaronSR »

Hey all, I've been looking for a component splitter, mainly for those systems in the title. Having search ebay, amazon etc. I can see there's not a huge selection to choose from.

The splitter is needed for a setup with the USB3HDCAP capture card which has no passthrough, so its necessary to split the image first to go to the capture card and my TV at the same time, my HDMI splitter works perfectly for this.

So I only really need one input to two outputs basically.

I'm leaning towards the "Startech 3 Port Component Video Splitter (ST123HDA)"
https://www.startech.com/AV/Splitters/L ... o~ST123HDA

A small box with three outputs and $80 shipped on amazon currently.

However there are some worrying reviews on amazon regarding signal loss on distinct scene changes (dark scenes to bright scenes etc.) and doesn't specifically state that its 240p compatible, although the page does say "Works with standard and high definition displays", so I guess?

Hopefully someone here owns one or an alternative that they can recommend? Thanks

Eighty dollars sounds high for a splitter. You could get a full matrix switch for that.

Have any links? $80 is cheaper than any listing on ebay (that ships to the UK). I just need something that splits it to two honestly, don't need 5 outputs like the Keene 1x5 splitter.

But that's much cheaper... Are you saying you want to spend much more in order to have less functionality?

Maybe something like this would work http://www.ebay.com/itm/Extron-DA2-RGBH ... SwvihY~J4H

or http://www.ebay.com/itm/Extron-ADA-6-30 ... Swv~NZsbAB

I haven't used any of the above. My extron crosspoint 8x8 splits component from Gamecube and Xbox, so I would think their other distribution amps would be ok too.

If I found one brand new for less then sure, most of which I've seen are used (I have no issue buying used but I have the money to buy new and would prefer that honestly). But I'd never use more than two outputs is my point.

Thanks I will look into these.

EDIT: Ok so these Keene 1x5 Splitters are new at £45 shipped (roughly £15 cheaper than the Startech one)

Anyone have any experience with these? Seems like my best option for price.

Long ago, there were a bunch of passive component switches that sucked. Really sucked.

The internet decided that all component devices suck and you should pay as much money as possible for a "good" component splitter/matrix/switch.

That's bullsh*t.

I have a SB-5470 and an SB-5460. I literally paid $10 usd for each of them. If you're patient, you'll find them cheap.

They look fantastic. Shinybow also had these switches sold under other brand names--the A-Neutronics brand name is one. You can ebay these cheap switches or grab one at a thrift store (visit your local thrift stores!) for next to nothing.

Even of you pay inflated prices, it's still only $50 usd--and you get a 4x2 full matrix switch.

What cables would you guys recommend? I actually don't have any male to male component cables, these should be good right?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/AmazonBasics-C ... op?ie=UTF8

(going from the splitter to TV)
I imagine like HDMI they should be fine so long as they're gold plated and I don't need to pay anything over £10?

I use this Shinybow 4 in 2 out and love it. Have one port going to PVM and the other going to the flatscreen.

This auction is in Australia but you might be able to find it near you.

The Joytech JS965C is a great component switch. video quality is excellent, It has 6 component inputs, and it even comes with a nice remote control. Its also pretty heavy and wont get pulled down by the wires.

I have one. they can be found for about $50 on ebay. theres one on there right now for $26.99 but looks like it doesnt have the remote.
