Its what they called an "Invader House". All of those cocktails would have been Space Invaders and such places popped up at the peak of the games popularity.

Another example:

Looks a fun place to be either way.

That's just being pedantic.

Mentioned this years ago on this forum - I have memories of an arcade on the rooftop (enclosed) of a shopping center in Kuala Lumpur in 1980 which was just row upon row of Space Invaders. Nothing but Space Invaders, and cigarette smoke.
This is the first time I've heard the term "Invader House", perfect! - that is what it was.

No information to contribute, but only to say, thank you for naming it and sharing this interesting history!
I love hearing about this sort of thing.
Making a run 'n' gun with a transforming grappling hook: ChainStaff. Also made a shmup with multi-ships: Shoot 1UP DX, and more .

The amazing Sore Ha Pong Kara Hajimatta has a few pics of arcades during the "Invader Boom". Unfortunately a Google Image search turns none up.

"...and that's how I met your mother....". I bet many folks met each other playing Space Invaders. One old GF was amazing at playing Last Blade.

Is that book 90% text of at least 30% or more of photos?

It is almost all text. It's a Japanese book in every sense. Not a ton of photos at all, but the ones it has are pretty cool. The content of the text is amazingly dense as well (the first 75 of 500 or so pages is about the history of pinball in the US). I only got halfway through it. It was around the time I was becoming disenchanted with the industry, and never finished. Maybe one day I will pick it up. It deserves a translation for sure, but doubt it's a profitable endeavor.

Were there ever any Pac-Houses? I would imagine that they would have been Pac-ed.

Or better referred to "Puck-Man House", right?

Very nice photo. Must've been within a year or so that I first saw Space Invaders popping up in California. Maybe it was a convenience store? Bowling alleys and pizza parlors also had machines, so I'm not sure.
