D24E1WE shows wrong model number on menu

Post by asasra »

hello

I'm talking with someone online about buying their D24E1WE off them.
I asked them to send an image showing the hour count and in the menu screen it's showing the wrong model number (D20F1U).

So, the monitor they're selling has the right model number on the back, and has the right screen size, but shows the wrong model number on the menu.

This is really puzzling because the D20F1U is 4:3 while this one is 16:9 so it can't possibly be a D20F1U as far as I know.

Can anyone guess what might be going on here?
Any ideas or advice will be more than welcome.

Here's a video link where you can see for yourselves:

And some images follow.

Thanks!!

It sounds like the board or even the IC that controls the menu was replaced at one time. with one from a different monitor.

Would you say that's a red flag then, or maybe a reasonable fix?

I personally don't care as long as the picture and features of the monitor remain the same.
I guess it's hard to know.

Thanks very much.

From memory, the ISR module / System Control board (the left most board with the four 9 pin DSUB connectors) retains all the ROM information for the monitor. I initially thought that it might have had the ISR module swapped from a D20, but it has the same serial number on the back of the sticker, so I'm not so sure. I've temporarily swapped ISR modules between different monitors in the D range (just to test that they work) and they always reported the model number of the original monitor that they came from, though I never bothered to check if the serial number followed or perhaps that's stored somewhere else?

I'm not sure of the potential damage that could be done using a ISR module with a different model of monitor from the D range (it might be perfectly fine), but granted the D24 and can do things the D20 can't (e.g. beam landing correction, digital uniformity adjustment) you might be limiting the control of the monitor.

Can the owner tell you the history of the monitor?

Hi xga

Thanks very much for the info, that makes a lot of sense.
Seller says they bought it 5 or 6 years ago from a company in Hamburg
( which moved to a new Location and there was not enough space for it)
and they had bought it from Babelsberg . There is a Sticker on it saying 2002.

I'm not sure if I'll ever find one of these again.

Thanks for the replies.

hey xga

I think I found the card on ebay for like 30 bucks

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sony-A-1136-017 ... SwzPdZtC0W

could I just put that card in there replacing the old ISR module to restore the monitor's full functionality?

that would be pretty sweet indeed

Yes, that should be fine. AFAIK the ISR modules for the D range are all exactly the same, except for the ROM code. Keep in mind that potential information such as operational hours might be from the original monitor and not yours.

Hello,

It sounds like the ISR board was replaced with one from a D20. You can't just do a straight up swap because you'll lose all the deflection and sizing and calibration that is included on the existing ISR board. You'd basically be starting from square one.

Also, without the original ISR board there is no way to know how many hours the CRT has been used.

I would check it out and decided after seeing it - but I wouldn't pay top dollar. I'd say if it looks AMAZING you shouldn't pay more than $1500 for it since theee seem to sell for between $2500 and $3000 these days.

Good luck
